Fairy Houses

Lets go back to our childhood days...

when make-believe of magical things,

to see faeries we hoped and dreamed,

to be inspired to maybe see,

when we journeyed into the forest-deep,

between the trees and the through the streams,

searching and looking for those magical beings.

We collected treasures from mother nature's woods...

moss,lichens , pinecones ,acorns

milkweed pods

birch bark

feathers

and magical stones.

All of these things for a faiere's home.

Finding building Materials for Fairy Houses

Searching the Woods

Have you ever seen a fairy? Maybe you need a fairy hideaway house.

A fairies home away from home. A tiny woodsie place where fairies would love to dwell, a mini home away from home when they come for a visit to you.

Decorate your own miniature fairy house all the supplies and directions are included.

All you need to find is Mod podge, tacky glue or a glue gun.

Take a hike into nature to find additional treasures to add to your fairy house - Familiar things fairies will love!

Have you ever taken a hike through the forest in search of fairies?

I'll share my story here...

I travel that path quite often and sometimes I stop to take a rest and pull out my watercolor sketch book and paint the scenic woods.

This scene was sketched after hiking up a mountain.

I ventured off of the trail, deep into the woods and low and behold I found these unique fairies sitting upon these quaint little mushroom huts.

They were so enchanting that I had to paint them.

Go for a nature hike into your local woods. Search for items that would be great treasures for a fairy House.

Here are some items you might find that any finicky fairy might like... moss, pinecones, feathers, acorns, lichens, polypores and other shelf like fungi, like false turkey tails that grow on dead wood. Turkey tail fungi make great shelves, stairs, and shingles for birch bark or gourd fairy houses.

The most important material in constructing a fairy house is birch bark. If you prefer you could use a gourd for fairy house - as I sometimes do.

Birch Bark can be easily found in the North East part of the U.S.A. and Canada - that is where I have found it. It exists in other parts of the country as well, but maybe not so easily found.

Harvesting Birch Bark
You need a utility knife and a couple of trash bags to gather your birch bark. The best kind of birch bark and the only kind I use is the bark you can pull off of rotting logs on the bottom of the forest floor.

I never use birch bark that is on live birch trees; It does not have the correct viscosity for sculpting a house. If you peel the bark off of the tree the pieces are too thin. You will expose a live tree to disease by removing too much bark.

The bark from the rotting logs has a leather like texture that is thicker and more stable. When you find your rotting log piles in the woods the easiest way to get the bark off of the logs is to take your utility knife and make a straight long cut down the middle of the log, then cut around the log and pull the bark off.

Leave all the inner rotting wood behind in the forest. It is decomposing and all the cute little centipedes, termites, and beetle grubs will be happier staying in their woodsy environment.

You can save all the time and trouble of finding and constructing your house by purchasing a kit from me check out what I have for sale at www.tessimal.etsy.com

My wife has fairie vision. Not everyone does. I don't. She sees and talks to them. I thought she was a little "special," until she shot the first flight of a flower fairy in our backyard in daylight. You can see it at http://www.fairiefabels.com
