The Infinitive Guide to Fake News

Ranked #25,700 in Culture & Society, #497,391 overall

This just in: Fake news sweeping the nation

Soaring gas prices! War in Iraq! War in Georgia! Exploding unemployment and inflation. Cancer, lung and heart disease, and AIDS! Let's face it, life can be pretty daunting sometimes.

It's no wonder I love 'The Daily Show' so much. We all deserve a break; a break from the constant stream of bad news. So in a world gone nuts, give me fake news any day. Part news, part comedy routine, fake news allows us to take the edge off of the news and hopefully bring a smile to our faces, or even better make us bust out in laughter.

This lens is my tribute to the world of fake news, from the classics to the modern day marvels like Jon Stewart and 'The Onion.' So if you're like me, I dedicate this lens to you, and remember, while you can fake the news, you can't fake laughter. Enjoy!

These lenses got the "fake" stuff

In my opinion, these shows are the cutting edge of fake news. Between the two, Jon and Stephen are blurring even further the line between fake and "real" news (whatever that is).

How to write a joke

How to Write a Good Joke
from wikiHow - The How to Manual That You Can Edit

Jokes are good for most occasions. There are jokes about any subject you can imagine. However, writing a good joke takes time and creativity. Not many people have a creative and playful imagination, but with these few easy steps, you will have have people laughing for days.
Steps
  1. Think about an interesting topic - preferably one that is derived from a current event.
  2. Decide how you can turn something serious into something entertaining.
  3. Make sure to write a joke that is not too offensive to people, because you could be facing some serious lawsuits.
  4. Present it to an audience and see if they like it.
  5. Try imitating famous people. The more you practice (on different people) the funnier it gets!

Tips
  • A good topic would be a joke about a celebrity or someone who is in the public eye - for example, in the government. You can turn this topic into a joke by making fun of someone's accent or the way that they act.
  • Also a good topic is to take a group, celebrity, or public figure and look for something (hit yourself) hypocritical about that person or something they've done recently. Often public figures get caught compensating or acting contrary to their beliefs or other acts. If done carefully, you can be funny and make a point.

Warnings
  • Make sure your joke is not offensive, such as a joke that offends someone of a different race or a joke that degrades the opposite sex.
  • Also make sure that your joke takes into account the sensibilities of groups like PENI who, for example, don't want you to hurt the feelings of cows by playing "cow bingo" with them. And never-ever-ever tell a member of such a group that they themselves ARE a joke because the humor will be lost on them.
  • It is absolutely essential that your joke be funny. If it is not, people will think that there might be something wrong with your mind and you will be forced to laugh nervously and say "Come on guys, it's just a joke," until the moment is forgotten.
