Doing Fall Cleaning Is Much Better Than Spring Cleaning
Fall cleaning is a much better idea than spring cleaning. I have always heard that we do our big major cleaning of our home in the spring. I bet you have too. I think that spring is the worse time to do your yearly cleaning. (some may say no time is a good time) Spring is the time to go outdoors and enjoy yourself - smell the flowers.
The best time to do Fall Cleaning is right after Halloween.
Five Reasons For Doing Fall Cleaning
Cuts Down On Work
1. More dirt is tracked into the house during Spring and Summer than any other time of the year. This dirt will be with you and grind into your floors and home furnishings all year. That is if you do your big yearly cleaning in the Spring.
2. Spring cleaning only gives you a nice clean home for a short time before all the dirt is tracked back into your home.
3. Bugs and summer flies, seeds and other debris will make their way into your home, especially if you have boys. The bugs and flies can set up winter residence and you'll have them all year.
4. When you clean after Halloween your windows will be closed, unless you are in a warm zone, this will prevent dust and pollen from entering. Plus the kids are in school and they won't be running in and out all day.
5. As an added bonus when you do Fall cleaning your home will be clean for all the major holidays. This cuts down on redoing major efforts before holiday guests arrive.
Dusting Supplies
To Do The Job

You are going to need the right supplies and tools to do the job quickly and effectively.
Supplies For Dusting:
1. Cleaning Cloth: Old soft cotton rags such as terry cloth or sweatshirts cut up into about 9"x18" sections. These are good for and can be used for most cleaning jobs.
2. Specially Treated Cloth: These are disposable and good for collecting dust while leaving a soft sheen on the furniture.
3. Lambswool Duster: Or a synthetic puff on a long handle. This is good for reaching high places and it picks up dust by static attraction.
Cleaning Tools
Correct Tool For The Job

Having the correct cleaning tools on hand will make the job easier.
Cleaning Tools:
1. Cellulose Sponge: You'll need a few of these in various sizes. They're good for any washing and absorbing job.
2. Scrubbing Sponge: You want the type that doesn't scratch your surface. These are good to use in the bathroom and kitchen.
3. Spray Bottle: The pint and quart size with a trigger spray. Fill them with diluted concentrated cleaners. Place the filled bottles in several locations around the house.
4. Dry Sponge: Comes either treated or natural. They can clean many surfaces better, faster and with less mess. You just throw them out when they fill up with dirt.
5. Window Squeegee: It is handy to have a couple in different sizes with a rubber blade. These are used for washing windows.
6. Dust Mop: Cotton head with a rotating handle. One that is dust treated works well on hardwood floors.
7. Sponge Mop: Various sizes with a squeeze handle. Good for when you want a quick damp floor mopping.
8. Hand Floor Scrubber: For scrubbing hardwood floors and other scrubbing jobs.
9. Bowl Brush: A heavy duty one to use with a bowl cleaner.
10. Degreaser/Wax Stripper: Use to clean the top of a refrigerator and vent fans where grease is a problem. Wax stripper for removing the wax from hardwood floors.
11. Floor Wax: This will help protect all kinds of surfaces, hardwood floors, any wood surface, tiles and no wax floors.
12. Natural Wood Oil Soap: Made out of organic vegetable oil and cleans wood while leaving a soft sheen.
Cleaning and Cleaners
How Many?

You only really need three types of cleaners and a degreaser.
1. A Neutral All Purpose Cleaner: This can be used for almost any cleaning job. It is safe for wood and won't damage other surfaces.
2. A Germicidal or Disinfectant Cleaner: Select a quaternary neutral type because it's nontoxic. Use in the bathroom or any area that you need germ and order control.
3. An Evaporating Alcohol Based Cleaner: This is used to polish chrome and appliances.
4. Degreaser: For areas that collect some sort of grease like kitchen vents.
Fall Cleaning Golden Rule
What Is The First Golden Rule?

The first golden rule of house cleaning is not to have to do it.
1. Dust and Dirt: Did you know that dust and dirt is the number 1 thing that you clean off furniture, pictures, rugs, walls etc.
2. Dust and Carpet: Did you know that your carpet holds in dust and dirt. Each time you walk over your carpet you stir up the dust and it floats to other areas. It is better to have hardwood floors and use area rugs.
3. Entrance Mats: Using an entrance mat at all your doors will cut down on the amount of dirt brought into the house. Removing your shoes when entering your home would greatly help.
4. Dust Collectors: Books and decorative objects are big dust collectors. Keep things in enclosed bookcases and shelves. Keep things off your closet floor and the door closed. This will help cut down on the dust - and it will be easier to clean.

- I hate to clean, but it's worse to live with clutter and dust. I like to be outdoors in the spring, so I agree that fall is a better time to get the big cleaning jobs out of the way. Very nice lens!

- I am of the belief that no time is a good time for cleaning. I love to be outside in the fall as well in the spring. So, I would have to say for me Winter is the best time for cleaning.

- I totally agree! If you're allergic to pollen the best time to do it is after the summer and get rid of all those sneezy dusty polleny things in your home.
I've actually done my Autumn cleaning a little earlier this year - started yesterday- but my cottage is so little I can get away with doing several big cleans! The worst is when you move the bed and find thick layer of dust beneath!!
Awesome lens!
