October 3rd 2009 - 11th Annual Fall Harvest Festival
The third ever "Bubba-Bake-Off" featured local fellas showing off their most(ly) creative baking skills! This is an event that would make Betty Crocker proud and that will tickle you good! Cakes were auctioned, with proceeds going to S.O.U.P. and Clemson Community Care.
We are very pleased that the Carolina Raptor Center once again brought their birds to our Festival and the day started off right with it's 21st Ride for Raptors- an enjoyable bicycle ride to benefit the center.
If you came this year, we sure hope you had fun! If you missed it, you might enjoy seeing all the photos and videos from this year's event.
We are now looking forward to next years event.

Carolina Raptor Center and Ride for Raptors
Ride For Raptors
and The Carolina Raptor Center
The 21st Annual Ride for Raptors is scheduled for the morning of the Fall Harvest Festival. There are three routes that a rider can choose from: a fun 25 mile ride for family and friends, a metric century of 66 miles for the athletic rider and a century of 100 miles for the really serious rider. All routes have rest areas with water and snacks. This charitable bicycle ride donates all proceeds to Carolina Raptor Center (CRC).
Carolina Raptor Center is a regional rehabilitation and education center that serves Western NC & SC and admits over 700 injured or orphaned raptors every year. Every day, hawks and owls are injured when hit by cars or when a tree with a nest is cut down and chicks fall to the ground. These birds are critical to a healthy environment. They help control the populations of squirrels, rodents, and snakes in our backyards and neighborhoods. They are a pleasure to watch as they circle above our heads on the wind or hoot in the night as we fall asleep. They provide diversity to the eco-systems we depend on for our own survival. They represent our freedom as a symbol of our nation.
Zlaty, a golden eagle, is an annual visitor to Ride for Raptors. Zlaty is a permanent resident and education ambassador for CRC. He was found in Arizona with a severe wing injury in 1985 and came to CRC shortly afterwards. He is one of over 100 permanent residents at the Center.

- Pendleton and its Harvest Festival look to me like a great destination for a fall vacation trip. My only visit to SC was to Beaufort about 10 years ago and it was delightful. Pendleton is closer to my home - you've got me thinking about a southern fall vacation next year.
