Fall decorating inspired by nature
Fall is my favorite season because of the colorful fall foliage, foliage tours, and cooler, but not too cold temperatures. The colors of fall are warm and inviting, something I like to enjoy indoors as well as outdoors. In the 1970's our home was decorated in the warm colors of fall, browns, oranges and yellows, it was more stylish then. Now it is cooler colors, but I compensate with warm wood tones and a country atmosphere.
Fall will be here in a few months, and it's not too early to explore fall decorations, especially decorations inspired by fall leaves because they make up the warm colors of fall.

Though I've been advised that the makeup I should use should be cool colors, I love warm colors for decorating. I wonder if it has anything to do with my mood or personality? I wonder how colors affect mood?

Use indoors or out
Use a fall leaf garland to frame the entryway into a room, or the mantel of a fireplace that is not in use.
I look forward to surrounding the entryway to our kitchen...which is really an extension of our living room, with a garland like this. You can also use this to decorate railings and door frames outdoors, or to make a fall doorway wreath...more about that follows.

How to Make a Fall Door Wreath
Videos plus my easy instructions
Here are some videos on how to make a fall wreaths to decorate your door...some are simple, some more complex, with a variety of ideas.
Simple instructions for making your own fall wreath:
1. Buy or make a grape vine wreath base (see below the videos).
2. Take a fall leaf garland like the one picture above, and wrap it all the way around the entire wreath base.
It's as simple as that, how you wrap it...thick or sparse with some of the grapevine showing through is up to you.
You can add accents if you like, but I plan to do this with just the wreath base and a garland of fall leaves this year. It will hang on the side of our cabin that faces the road between two windows where all my seasonal wreaths hang as the seasons change.

There is nothing like decorating with things made by your own hands. Personally, I don't think I'd arrange the leaves quite like they are in the picture, I may overlap them a bit at irregular angles, but that's me:-) Here are some of the instructions to make the leaves pictured, there is complete information on how make, felt and finish the leaves at this lionbrand site link.
Hook - J-10
Yarn sewing needles
Basic instructions:
Ch 3. Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in last ch - 2 sc. Ch 1, turn.
Sc in each sc. Ch 1, turn.
Next Row: Work 2 sc in first sc (inc made), sc in each sc across to last sc, inc 1 in last sc. Ch 1, turn.
Rep last row 3 more times - 10 sc.
Work even in sc for 5 rows.
Next Row: Slip st in first 2 sts, 6 sc, skip last 2 sts. Ch 1, turn.
Next Row: Sc2tog over first 2 sc, sc in each sc across. Ch 1, turn.
Rep last row 4 times. Fasten off and weave in ends.

- We don't have seasons so not so much into the Fall colors. However, there are some great ideas shown here that I find I actually would like to recreate. I do make my own grapevine wreaths that I use to decorate throughout the year. Just might have to borrow some ideas from here to make one for the fall.
