Fall is a Great time for Photography

One of my favorite times to take photographs is in the fall when photography ideas abound. I love to photograph the beautiful autumn and the beauty of the changing colors. Everything looks brighter and more cheerful with the beauty that nature brings in the autumn.

The next reason I love fall photography is that the lighting seems to be better in the fall. The days are shorter and the sun is not as bright in the sky so I can easily photograph into mid morning and still get some great light. Evening is the same way, the good light is there much earlier in the day.

There is also an abundance of subjects to photograph in the fall and they can be found everywhere. Whether you stay in your own backyard, visit a nearby farmers market or go on a fall foliage tour you will love the abundance of fall photography ideas.

Fall Photography Idea #1

farmers market displays

I have started to bring my camera along when I am shopping for produce at the local farmers market. In the fall you can always find great ideas with the displays they have for the produce. The pumpkins are an obvious choice but don't forget the bins of apples and other produce as well.

Fall Photography Idea #2

take a drive in the countryside

I love to go for drives in the fall. My husband will drive the country roads and we will both look for autumn photography opportunities.
Here is a tree we saw on a drive through the Missouri wine country.

Fall Photography Idea #3

use a polarizing filter

I took a photography class this spring where the instructor talked about using a polarizing filter. He showed us photos with and without the filter and the results were dramatic. The filter really brings out the beauty of the fall colors. I have purchased a polarizing filter and I am looking forward to using it this fall. If you have a DSLR camera where you can add filters to your lenses this will really enhance your fall photos.

Fall Photography Idea #4

fall foliage tours

Last fall we took a cruise up the east coast from New York City to Quebec City. The scenes in Quebec city were particularly beautiful. Fall was at its prime and it was great to photograph the old building surrounded in fall color. When we walked the streets of the city I also found numerous subjects for fall photography.

Fall Photography Idea #5

look for subjects in your own neighborhood

If you look around your own yard and neighborhood you are bound to find lots of fall ideas. My neighbors are used to seeing me with my camera photographing their fall decorations. Halloween is a great time for the outdoor decorations. Stop by my Halloween lens to see a tour of my neighborhood.

Fall Photography Idea #6

photograph up close

Be sure to take some of your photos up close. When you start looking for leaves to photograph up close you will find it "easier said then done". After a long hot summer many of the leaves take on a worn look when photographed up close. It is worth the time to search for some good looking leaves to photograph.

Fall Photography Idea #7

look for reflections

The reflections of fall colors on the water can make some stunning photos. Use your wide angle lens and capture both the trees and their reflection in the water.

Beautiful photos. There is nothing quite as amazing as all the colors of fall is there. I really miss the colors in the Midwest, so much more striking than here in the UK. Nicely done, blessed, and Happy Thanksgiving.

So beautiful. I too love Autumn and have posted some photos called "Autumn's Beauty". I still believe the most beautiful Autumn I have seen is up North especially in Michigan. Although the colors do not last that long, they are breath taking beautiful while they are there. Michigan Autumn Tree Leaving you with a *Blessing* for a fantastic job on this page.
