As you've probably noticed, I've sort of designated September as a fall month and I've left out December. Mostly because December is just too "wintery" to be a classified as an autumn month, in my opinion. Even the fall months have their "mini" seasons

As we get into fall, the days are getting shorter and the air is getting cooler. Late September until mid-October are the best days to capture the vibrant colors of autumn in an outdoor wedding. The weather, while cooler, isn't freezing cold yet. However, if you do decide on having an outdoor ceremony and/or reception during this time of the year, plan on putting up large party tents and renting outdoor space heaters, just in case. The weather can become somewhat unpredictable at this point.

By the way, a Halloween wedding theme has become a very popular choice for the end of October. With all the Halloween items available, you won't have much problem planning out your décor or selecting favors.

The month of November can be a bit more "iffy" in terms of cold weather and possible snow flurries, especially in the northern regions. It's best that you go with an indoor venue for your wedding and reception at this time of the year.

In the early part of the fall, holding your fall wedding ceremony outdoors is a truly beautiful setting if you live in an area where the tree leaves turn color.

Think of places such as apple orchards with their colorful leaves and bright, red apples for contrast. A vineyard is also a popular choice as is a local nature park.

18th century style churches, Tudor style inns, historic villages, or a large barn provide wonderful character for an indoor ceremony and reception. These places lend themselves to being decorated in fall foliage and decor. If possible, choose a location that provide warmth to the rooms with rich dark woods, wood flooring and fireplaces."

Incorporate the rich colors of the fall leaves within the décor of your wedding. Here are some beautiful color combos that may work for you:

Dark brown paired with a deep orange-red color would be a stunning combination.

Dark green, light green and golden yellow with accents of red capture the colors of the leaves just as they begin to turn.

Consider a soft autumn color combination in muted yellow, light brown/tan and muted green.

Other colors that are perfect for this season: Bronze, Dark Pink, Burgundy, Rust, Purple, Egg Plant, dark & light green.

Montbretia, Roses (like Black Magic, Red Berlin, and Terra Cotta), Hypericum, Amaryllis, Shrub Honeysuckle, and Carnations are just a few of the flower selections that are popular for an autumn wedding.

Dried and silk flower are available all year round, but if you wish to use real flowers, then it's important to choose flowers that are in-season, otherwise you will substantially increase the costs to your flower arrangement.

For simplicity's sake, you could just plan a menu that follows the traditional Thanksgiving dinner. However, no matter how much people like turkey and/or ham, it gets pretty old pretty fast when you eat too much of it. Instead, make your choices from hearty autumn fair. Here are some ideas of seasonal foods that are popular during the fall season:

Roast beef, squash, potatoes, apples, a variety of breads and butters, plums, blackberries, pears, walnuts, pecans, pumpkin, hot soups, rich cream-based sauces, Yorkshire pudding, shrimp, turkey, pork, baked pasta dishes, eggplant, spiced cakes and cookies, preserves (jams, jellies, etc.), pickles, and chutneys.

For drinks choose richer wines (especially reds), apple cider, and spiced rums.
