Woods Hole and Falmouth's Ties with Martha's Vineyard
Woods Hole is home to not just the Oceanographic Institute, but is where you can find the Steamship Authority Ferry to Martha's Vineyard. Ferries run often to Vineyard Haven and Oak Bluffs. The distance between Woods Hole and Martha's Vineyard, at the closest spot, is approximately 4 miles. Woods Hole also has a small village center, with shops and local businesses.

The town of Falmouth is made up of the villages of East Falmouth, Falmouth Village, North Falmouth, Teaticket, West Falmouth, and Woods Hole. These villages each have their own neighborhoods within those villages as well. For instance, East Falmouth contains Seacoast Shores, Menauhant, and Great Harbors. The most well known of all of these villages is Woods Hole, at the southwestern end of Falmouth.
Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution in Falmouth plays a huge part in learning more about our oceans. It is one of the largest and most influential Oceanographic Institutions in the world.

First built in 1828, Nobska Light has been shining its lantern light bright to warn sailors of the treacherous shoals and waters that lie just off of Falmouth, particularly L'Hommedieu and Hedge Fence shoals. .
