Its so wonderful to enter into any home and see the family coat of arms displayed over the mantlepiece just as they did in bygone times, it shows great pride in the family name.
The actual Coat of Arms was the linen surcoat worn over the armour to protect it from the direct rays of the sun. You just can imagine how hot the armour would get and this on top of the weight would make it very uncomfortable. The shield was decorated with the same emblems that were embroidered on the linen garment.
