Family Dental Insurance: Is there A Link Between Family Dental Insurance, Clean Teeth and Good Health?
A family dental insurance is vital component of your family's dental health but does it have an impact on overall health of the family too? Recent studies suggests a link between dental health and overall health.
Also, the cost of preventing dental diseases like cavities, gums infections, root canals are much cheaper than to treat them.
Family dental insurance operates has a slightly different model than health insurance. Dental insurance companies have always put an emphasis on preventive care. Their logic is simple.
Dental problems are easier to detect to and treat in their early stages and cost less too. Treatment of full blown problem is always a lot more expensive.
That should you in no doubt about why the family dental insurance companies are investing in preventive care.
If you check your family dental insurance policy you will the dental insurance companies are including generous preventive care packages so you get extra cleanings, routine dental visits for free and at hefty discounts.
You would be surprised to know that these benefits in your family dental insurance have been extended even for diabetics, heart patients and so on.
If the link between clean healthy teeth and good health is more clearly established through further research and more careful studies it could be real bonus for nation in terms of health bill. By spending a little more dental health we can enjoy better overall health as a nation.
It looks like dentists and the dental health industry will finally get the due attention. Dentists always looked down by their counterparts in the medical profession will finally get the importance they deserve as they will be serving as important members of the nations overall health keepers.
People who have had regular dental care can expect to have healthy teeth well into their old age. Dentistry has advanced to such an extent that you can have full set of artificial teeth implanted into your mouth and continue to enjoy the same lifestyle as when you were much younger.
Dental care costs unlike health care costs are generally much lower and most dental diseases are preventable. Also, dental plan is not at all expensive if you consider the benefits that accrue as a result. Less off days at school and work, better health and lower costs.
Most insurance companies offered dental benefits as part of the medical insurance package as an added benefit for an extra premium. Family dental insurance was not tailored to needs of the individual or the family seeking the dental insurance. You had to settle for what you got.
The health insurance industry is finally waking up to the realities of family dental insurance and the industry might see an integration of family dental insurance with the overall health insurance. It can only mean better dental benefits for patients.

Family Dental Insurance Allowing Rollover of Dental Benefits

A large number of employers want employees to contribute more towards dental premiums. Some have altogether dropped offering dental benefits to their employees. Increased payments towards family dental insurance is not a very attractive prospect for employees who enjoy good dental health. Many of these people hardly use their insurance for anything apart from the routine check-ups and cleanings.
Under such circumstances family dental insurance companies saw a high percentage of employees opting out of their dental plans altogether. This is not a good precedent at all. One it means more people are falling out of dental health network. Only recently studies have proven that good oral health means could overall health. Which could directly result in increased savings on the medical bills.
Second factor, is that only high-risk patients opting for the family dental insurance increases the costs remain in the plan and also for the insurers. Not attractive for either.
To make the dental plans more attractive for the group of people dropping out the insurers are allowing members to roll over their unused maximum treatment limits to next year. Suppose your annual limit is $1200 dollars and you use say 500 dollars of this amount then you can roll over a percentage of this remaining 700 dollars to the next year. Some plans cap the number of years you can rollover this annual limit.
Also, you are required to make atleast one visit to the dentist every year for this roll over to take effect. According to the family dental insurance companies they want members to take advantage of the preventive care package to keep their gums healthy and prevent tooth decay.
Also, many screening tests and dental implants are also being covered under the family dental insurance to try to keep the members from dropping out.
