Nick-named the "Sunshine State," Florida offers a great destination for a family vacation. Most people automatically think of Walt Disney World when Florida is mentioned, however, there are many other attractions in Florida which make it an ideal location to escape to with your family.

When planning a family holiday the most important factor to consider when choosing the location is how much your children will enjoy the holiday. If you have young children then the best locations are those which offer the most attractions to keep them entertained. With its vast supply of theme parks Florida definitely meets this requirement!

Walt Disney World Resort

Walt Disney World Resort is without doubt the most famous theme park in Florida. It's a dream of many families to visit the resort. With four theme parks and two water parks you and your family could be entertained for months, that's if you have the energy! Disney's Hollywood Studios features attractions based around your kids' favourite movies; Cars, Beauty and the Beast, Toy Story and loads more. The Magic Kingdom is great for younger kids, with lots of exciting rides, parades and famous charters like Mickey Mouse roaming the park.

Everglades National Park

Everglades National Park is the third largest National Park in the lower 48 states of the USA and is a great opportunity for a tranquil break, after all the excitement of Florida's theme parks! Get your kids involved in setting up the camp site, hiking, canoeing and bird-watching activities. The airboat ride and a stop at the Everglades Alligator Farm is a must as well!

SeaWorld Orlando

SeaWorld Orlando is a great place to visit if your kids are animal lovers. This park features shows, rides and exhibitions. Kids will love getting up close to the animals, they will be able to see animals like dolphins, whales and sharks which they may not have the opportunity to see back home. If you have teenagers, they will enjoy some of the water rides like Manta, which spins you and skims water like a giant ray!

LEGOLAND

For families with younger children, check out LEGOLAND. This 150 acre park features rides and shows aimed at kids aged 2-12 years old. Lots of kids, especially boys, love their LEGO so a whole park made of LEGO would be a dream come true for them! You can even take a tour of the LEGO factory to see how the bricks are made.

Kennedy Space Center

If your kids have a keen interest in all things science and space then the Kennedy Space Center. Here you can tour launch areas, see giant rockets and train in spaceflight simulators. There is also the opportunity to meet a veteran astronaut each day, so make sure you tell your children to think of some good questions! If you time your visit right then you could even view a rocket launch!

Top tips for booking your family holiday to Florida

Family vacations can be expensive so make sure you shop around for the best deals on accommodation. Also make sure you pick accommodation near to the attractions you will be visiting most; kids hate car journeys!

For the best chance of finding cheap flights, try booking close to your desired departure date. Normally flight prices come down closer to the departure date, which will leave you a larger budget for spending on holiday activities!

Plan ahead of time will make sure your holiday runs smoothly. Try writing lists and planning what clothing to pack for each family member ahead of time. That way you can check everything off against your list before you leave, leaving you to relax and enjoy your family vacation!
