Whoever said seth is a better voice actor obviously doesn't know what they are talking about. South Park has characters with similar voices only because when south park was created for their pilot episode Trey Parker and Matt Stone didn't have huge support. Remember this is when a show about kids wasn't taken seriously by TV networks (they wanted family based comedy shows) until Comedy Central made the smart decision to air them. Trey Parker is a genius voice actor who's multiple personas are all unique except the one voice he does for non-recurring characters which is largely the same from one episode to the next but quite frankly I wouldn't have it any other way. Also comparing South Park to Family Guy is like comparing the Simpsons with Family Guy. Family Guy had a three alright seasons whereas every South Park and Simpsons season is great in their own way.

I have been on a few other sites that are dedicated to arguing over which highly popular animated comedy- south park or family guy- is funnier? I have seen all episodes of both series as well as their specials and or movies, and I have loved them over any other comedy programs for practically the same reasons. They are ridiculous, satirical, crude, relevant, and witty. They both mock all reaches of religion, race, class, and political ideologies without hesitation or limits, as well as any other contemporary piece of American life that they can repackage and turn into a joke. This makes it clear that the writers of such shows have no real beefs with anyone, they pretty much just poke fun at anyone or anything that makes it an easy target. South park often does this more directly and cruelly than family guy, who tends to interpert their victims into their delightfully wacky and farfetched plot. Even though south park shares this love of potty humour and silly bumbling characters, one can watch a few episodes of south park and realize that its stories pack much more intellect behind it than family guy typically does. I am not denying that trey parker, matt stone and seth Mcfarlene are all exceedingly intelligent and good at what they do, and this is why I believe these comedy masterminds will never be able to outdo one another, and thats just fine. South park likes to stick a little insightful life lesson in its episodes, while family guy is happy to just get as many laughs possible with as many random yet equally humorous quips and puns. Both shows are consistently funny and, while many seem to think that these shows are past their primes, I believe that both shows are successfully continuing to be unrelentingly bold and fresh in the ways they find clever and ironic ways to blatantly make fun of...well... whatever they want.

Okay first of south park is AWESOME. Secondly family guy is funny but most of it is just random flash backs. the creators of family guy are just trying too hard. It is the same thing all the time and it just gets old. but that's just my opinion. Oh and by the way family guy steels joke from the Simpsons.

I absolutely love both shows, so this was hard for me, but South Park won because of Cartman. I am not the type to hate a show, or say, this show suck compared to this show, so I'm never gonna watch it. South Park won in my mind, the show is so clever and witty, that is, when it's not being over the top and rude for the sake of it. Even though this hasn't been highlighted as a problem so much for South Park as it has for shows such as Family Guy and The Simpsons, I do think the show's golden era is over. I so much enjoy watching South Park's earlier seasons rather than it's later ones. But at the end of the day, the newer episodes are still entertaining and funny to watch for all those shows.

Granted, Matt and Trey have had their fair share of misses, but even geniuses like the Beatles put out some real shit. South Park has so many episodes that have knocked it out of the park. Simply sheer genius.
Now I'm not going to bash Family Guy because I actually love it . . . mostly. The main flaw of the show is not the reliance on cutaway gags (usually hilarious) or "sophomoric humor"; it's Seth Macfarlane's ego, the embodiment of which is Brian (who Seth voices using his regular speaking voice). While South Park does touch upon controversial/political subjects and is not totally devoid of bias, Macfarlane is in-your-face preachy in a condescending, annoying fashion. I don't mind a liberal bias since I do lean left, but at times Macfarlane's "I'm better than all you stupid commoners" attitude compromises the show's effortless ability to make people laugh. Through the eyes of four boys, South Park is a satire of the adult world as the boys are the voice of reason over the absurdity of the adult characters.

I have always been a huge Family Guy fan. I loved the earlier seasons and watched them so many times that I have them memorized. Though lately, there recent seasons have been very serious and issue based and less focus on humor. So now I would say South Park is my favorite cause after over a decade of being on TV, their episodes on still funny, which is the point of a comedy. I think Family Guy is trying to be more grown up by addressing issues but it lacks the humorous delivery that South Park has. I actually like how South Park will take an issue and build a hilarious plot around it that is funny for the audience and at the same time makes you think.

Family Guy has declined a bit in quality since season 4, mainly because some of the cutaway gags just aren't funny and since they detract from the story, they are more noticeable. There are also too many cutaway gags on occasion and I feel they do more things for shock value now which mostly, aren't that funny. I find South Park starts off with a controversial point, then builds on it humorously until it culminates at the end of an episode with something very hilarious. Although, because of South Park's cut and paste animation that enables them to make an episode at any time they want based on a recent issue, I find the old episodes aren't that funny since the point they're making is so old. Ironically, it's the older episodes of Family Guy I find the funniest and the recent South Park episodes I find the funniest. Therefore, I choose South Park as of now.

lets not forget who has had better ratings for the past decade (south park). family guy is a funny show, i wont lie, but family guy relies on repetition. every family guy episode goes down like this... opening - random altercation - fixing the altercation, not to mention the flashbacks which can be funny but they are just used to waste time. Southpark on the other hand has no predefined structure, It has a plot that hits on something real, then the creators take and blow the plot out of proportion and create a story accordingly.

Like South Park said, Family Guy's jokes are pointless and completely repetitive. South Park has more purpose, and it's just plain old funnier. The only reason Family Guy has more supporters is because it has more publicity. Also, FG is much more vulgar than South Park. It contains tons of sexual references and violence, while South Park has some blood occasionally. A lot of people say South Park is offensive. Well everyone that's supposed to be offended are not. They target groups of people but when Family Guy offends people it's usually people that can't help the way they are and the jokes are mean and not funny.

@chowchow48, Do you even watch South Park? That is one of the most goriest shows out there! Have you seen the episode when Chef dies? Have you seen what happens? That show actually shows sex scenes, is rated M, say so many curse words (they have an episode devoted to that). Family Guy is TV-14, all you hear is noises which is them giggling and saying "Oh ___!". Only make your opinion if it's backed up. And Family Guy might have drugs, but those don't make it nearly as bad as South Park. Okay, I love both, but lately I've only been watching Family Guy, South Park gets old very easily, its about to get cancelled (so why bother getting attached), it's just been getting stupid. Family Guy may get offensive, but none of its episodes are banned, it hasn't started controversial riots or anything like that. So, I guess I choose Family Guy. Giggity

South park. The funny writers at family guy must have left it to the unfunny juniors. Maybe Seth doesn't realise or have the guts to tell them they suck. I hope they stay away from American dad. i think the viewers' opinion is effected by what they want out of the show. family guy provides a plentiful ammount of random jokes that usually have nothing to do with the plot, and take up half the episode. south park's jokes will stay with the plot and the episodes speak about problems in society. i think people who get bored easily will like family guy more, because when you flip to it, mid-episode, you get a laugh right away. south park's plotline requires the audience to somewhat be there. south parks writers tend to preach or see themselves as the ones who should explain some complicated issue in the world. the family guy writers, however, sit in a room and discuss cutaway gags. they put them in an episode and can be interchangeable. i personally like family guy better. some jokes make me cringe, though(Conway Twitty, giant chicken), and everyone notices the similarities to The Simpsons(Peter=Homer, Chris=Bart, etc), but i think the main goal of a cartoon comedy is to get laguhs, is it not? and in my opinion, family guy does a better job of that.

People act like SP is brilliant for it's satire. But it seems SP's political position is that anything you can make fun of must be stupid. (Their attack on FG is a good example.) It's so high school. And what is wrong with gag humor? Classic cartoons like bugs bunny are nothing but gag humor and have almost no story line at all; but Parker, Stone, Kricsfalusi and other modern animators worship those cartoons. (As they should) SP is a good show, but people take it too seriously and give it more credit for intelligence and sophistication than it actually deserves.

- I love them both. I've been watching Family Guy longer, so I've seen almost all there episodes, but with South Park there's plenty of episodes that I haven't seen. Based on that, I'd say that I like South Park more because when I watch it it's usually an episode I haven't seen before. However, the fact that I've seen more Family Guy has nothing to do with the shows themselves, so I can't cast a fair vote on the poll up above. By the way, nice article, videos, and polls.

- Fantastic lens. I'm a fan of both, but definitely for South Park much more. Truthfully, I wish Trey and Matt would take some of the unique ideas and joke styles from Family Guy and use them for their own jokes, making SP the perfect show!

- Awesome lens! Just saying, South park may be more interlectual but family guy has a wider range of jokes that never reapeat itself, unlike cartman's "big boned" thing.South park is just a bit too predictable (but I stilll watch both cos they're both brilliant!)

- Southpark is funnier, no contest. It's more intelligent with the jokes (even if it is offensive, sexual, racial, ...so on) and they do a good job of making fun of everyone with those offensive jokes while family guy has cheesy, cheap one-liner, horribly written interchangable jokes.
