Sing with your children!

I think we started singing in the car to pass the time on long trips over to Georgia to visit relatives. How many times did we sing "99 bottles of beer on the wall" all the way down to one?

Also, we moved often in those days and sometimes found ourselves in a new town with no friends. We spent those temporarily friend-less days with each other, dancing and singing. My sister insists we only had one record and that was Molly Brown. But I know we had a few more than that! :) It does seem we danced to Molly Brown an awful lot, though!

This lens is dedicated to my sisters, Ohme on Squidoo and Betty Tate Delorme.
I am thankful for all our fun - then and now!

The curtain falls and time passes

We still sing!

Now we sing at family reunions and other family get-togethers. We still have fun! Old songs can become family traditions. One year sister Nancy gave Betty and I both "I'm a little teapot" pins. Now I cannot imagine anyone else that could have loved those little pins any more than we have! They actually play the little tune. I don't know where she found them, but I am so glad she did!

The Family Songbook

Back in the early 1990's, I typed the words to all our favorite songs. Copies were put into clasp-folders, and we had our own songbook! That song-book has been carried to every reunion, I think. A friend called recently to tell me she had just re-discovered her copy. The book is filled with camp songs, church songs, nonsense songs, and songs that were once on the pop chart. It's just fun to have the words right in front of you when you are trying to remember, as we all are at this point in life!

Fun lens, our family has always enjoyed singing silly songs, especially when we travel in the car. My Dad started it with singing The Lion Sleeps Tonight and Day-O , The Banana Boat song. Still 2 of my favorites.

Hmmm, some mighty interesting songs that 'escape' my memory; i.e. 'Oh, I was born one night, one morn when the whistle went toot-toot.' Cute lens!

No if I could see you Tates singing on the youtube that would be the best, highest, most magnificent ranking of all! Thanks for adding my favorites. The oldies remind me of my sister. She would sing them while she was swinging in the back yard and you could hear her from way off.

My 4 year old grandson sings "Star wars, star star star wars; Star star star wars; star wars" Those are the only words that he knows, so he just sings the melody with those words over and over. His mom and aunt loved that song too--a generation ago when Star Wars first came out.

Lyrics - You're Always Welcome at Our House

Well, a man came to our house
Our house
Our house
A man came to our our house
To sell some brooms.
So we asked him to come in,
And we hit him with a hammer,
And we hid him in the closet
In my father's room.

But you're always welcome at our house
Any time of the day.
Yes,
You're always welcome at our house,
And we hope you will stay.

Then a lady came to our house
Our house
Our house
A lady came to find out why I wasn't in school.
So we asked her to come in,
And we gave her some poisoned lemonade,
And hid her in the freezer where it's nice and cool.

But you're always welcome in our house.
Any time of the day.
Yes,
You're always welcome at our house,
And we hope you will stay.

Then a kid came into our yard
Our yard
Our yard
A kid came into our yard to get his ball.
We asked him to come in,
And we took in the basement,
And we sealed him up inside the basement wall.

But you're always welcome in our house.
Any time of the day.
Yes,
You're always welcome at our house,
And we hope you will stay.

So when you come to our house
Our house
Our house
When you come to our house,
We'll have some fun.
We'll ask you to come in,
And we'll take you in the kitchen,
And we'll put you in the oven until you're done.

But you're always welcome in our house.
Any time of the day.
Yes,
You're always welcome at our house,
And we hope you will stay.

And we know you will stay.
