Family & Other Mysteries - LoKackl's Lensography of Family-Related Topics
Fundamental life-defining relationships for all of us derive from our first home. Mother, father, sister, brother. Sometimes, grandparents, too.
My own family theme drew from my parents' Midwestern farming origins, the changing economy of the post World War II era, the fact that I had one sibling, and plenty of shocks and upsets at home.
I could explore the theme of my family from beginning to end and write 24/7 from now til eternity without exhausting this theme!

Gifts With A Family Theme From Amazon
Sometimes Crises Overwhelm Family Bonds
Rebuilding relationships within my family after the death of my daughter has defined my life and my children's for a long time.
I enjoy sharing some of the stories of these years on Squidoo. The books I read, the choices I make, the concerns of my daily life are all sculpted by this event.
For me, the challenge of "living a good life" after heartbreaks so debilitating that life itself felt worthless for awhile has its own particular injunctions.

The Best Fiction Fills Longings - If Only Temporarily
When I was a young person I felt something was wrong with me and my family. I didn't know what. Reading became a way to define my worries and cares and to give meaning to my desire for self-acceptance. And, for the courage and skill to accept my family and life as it unfolded.
It's funny but at age 14 I read Margaret Mitchell's "Gone With The Wind" and was dazed and amazed by the usefulness of passion. Very soon, Eudora Welty became a top favorite author and guide to life on both the everyday and emotional level. The following lenses are about books that have added to my understandings on a family theme.

Security Versus Privacy

Writing about family on Squidoo at first seemed a little scary. Tinged with a dose of concern about security.
I still experience a tension where sharing on a family theme might intrude on privacy where others is concerned. However, I try to be open about myself without threatening others' privacy rights when it might be in poor taste. Or, worse.
Since my Mom died in 1996 and my Daddy in 2008, speaking about my relationships with them is no longer fraught with worry about their feelings. Still, others in the family have lives to consider. And, the old saw about "not having anything to hide" is not the same as, "who would be interested, anyway"?
Human interest includes all kinds of family tales and, I hope that instead of being cathartic, all my lenses on a family theme will provide helpful information and resources for others.
