Family Vocabulary in Spanish: Lens Content
Videos, Games, Songs and Resources for Teachers & Parents
when trying to learn spanish.
The lens content is split into different resource type by module. You can navigate these modules by using The Table of Contents below. A series of 'Talk Bubbles' will guide you through the lens, but you are under no obligation to work your way down the lens: you can treat the lens as a resource (to pick and choose from) or an actual online Spanish lesson (to follow through from start to finish).
In addition to the videos, games and songs I have already mentioned, I have also included a collection of free resources to be used offline by teachers and parents. I have also included a quick quiz for you to test the Spanish you have learned. This is meant to be a bit of fun and should not be taken too seriously. To help other learners, you can vote for your favourite type of resource. This will also help me to create better language learning lens in the future for you to use.
As you might have already guessed, this lens focuses on learning Spanish words for family members. Additional lenses focused on other areas of Spanish vocabulary will follow soon. As they do, I will add links to them on this lens. If there is a particular vocab subject you would like to see, please let me know using the contact form near the bottom of this lens.

Pick the Topic that Interests You
If you're dyslexic like me, written exercises can be problematic. Personally, I find it very difficult to take in and recall information when I'm reading (like water running off a duck's back). In contrast, I find videos, games & songs much easier to interactive with. I also find that it is much easier for me to remember information when I learn it from a video, game or song.
Additional Content
Free Resources on Squidoo, Not Free Resources on Amazon and Me
A group of lessons aimed at teaching key phrases in French, German, Italian & Spanish, and another group of lenses aimed at helping you learn a language with Twitter. Once again this group of Twitter lenses focus on French, German, Italian and Spanish (each language having its own lens).
I have also included a list of books, CDs, DVDs, Kindle Downloads and Software aimed at beginners learning Spanish available to buy from Amazon. These products have been selected by Amazon, not me. I included them as a possible additional option for your Spanish learning. You may prefer to stick with the free options :-)
Finally, I have included some information about my good friend Jose, who runs an excellent Spanish learning website for beginners. He is very generous with his time and provides a large range of free online resources for Spanish learners. He also introduced me to loads of very cool Mexican music :-)
If you have any further questions or requests, you can contact me via a range of options: all of which are listed in the final section of this lens 'Me on the Interweb'.
Best of luck with your Spanish studies!
Family Vocabulary in Spanish: Resources
“Los Videos Amigos!”
Los Videos
A Collection of Videos about the Family in Spanish
All of these videos have been provided by kind people for free. The quality of presentation, video & audio clarity and content does vary from video to video. In addition to this, some of the Spanish teachers are native speakers and some are not. My advice is to find the videos and teachers that suit you:
It's a good idea to watch at least two, if not three, videos on the same topic: different teachers will have different ways of explaining things and the variation will help you learn.
Don't assume native speaker is always best. Although native speaker is almost always best for pronunciation, an English speaking teacher may be able to explain things in a way that suits English speakers (as they themselves have been through the same problems).

Los Juegos
Free Online Games to Help You Learn
Games are a fun, interesting and different way of learning a new language. They stimulate different parts of your brain than other, more traditional, learning resources. They are also perfect for kids: they help keep the child's attention, and make them learn without realising they are learning.
I have brought together a collection of free online games for you to try. The quality of the games varies from site to site. You, as an individual learner, will also prefer some types of games over others. It is, therefore, important that you try a range of options in order to discover which ones suit you best.
You can help other learners of Spanish by rating the best and worst websites, using the 'up and down' arrows beside each link. If you know other online games designed to help people learn family vocabulary in Spanish, you can add them to the list.

Free Resources for Teachers and Parents
Online videos and games are a fantastic way to learn thanks to modern technology, but we should be careful not to forget the more traditional learning methods. New technology provides a great additional to traditional methods, not a subsitution. 'Face to Face' learning will always be important: whether it takes the form of a teacher or a parent.
I have brought together a small collection of free online resources for teachers and parents to work with away from the computer screen. As a teacher, I know you always need more resources: there are never enough exercises. Repetition is the name of the game when learning a new language. The only way to keep things interesting is to add as much variety as possible.
As with the online games, the quality and type of resource will vary from site to site. Once again you have to try a range of options to find out which ones suit youself, your students or children best.
You can help other learners of Spanish by rating the best and worst websites, using the 'up and down' arrows beside each link. If you know other online games designed to help people learn family words in Spanish, you can add them to the list.

"Unlike American English Speakers who seem to know at least some words and phrases in Spanish, British English Speakers do not usually learn Spanish at school. What little foreign language I did learn at school was focused on French and German. This meant, I think I can honestly say, I did not learn one single Spanish word or expression due to my schooling. A fairly remarkable fact when you consider how many people in the speak Spanish."Taken from 'My Spanish Story'. - Nice lens. Spanish is important language, we should learn at least some basic Spanish, if we want to have contacts in certain parts of the world.

- Great lens Toby, You're right, the best way to learn a language is by videos, games and meeting with people that speak the language and one important thing is not to get afraid of making mistakes, otherwise you wouldn't practice and learn.

- Excellent resource. I love Spanish, both the sound of the language and the music too. I worked with one manager from Argentina who when he spoke was like listening to poetry, it was amazing. Great lens, you have the right formula here I think, blessed.

- Thank you so much for the kind comment! :-) I find Italian as that quality too, like music or something - so very beautiful.
I hope the formula is working. I took your advice in a previous lens and added some audio links to my new Italian lenses - I think it adds an extra dimension.
Thanks again!
