Better Than Sex Cake? You Decide...
Yes, You read that right. Better Than Sex Cake. It's actually quite a popular dessert, but it's not for a dieter or healthy eater. If either of those describes you, I don't know what to tell you. LOL This cake is rich and if it's made well, not overly sweet.
I don't like to cook, but I love to make desserts and I prefer rich, gooey desserts that aren't too sweet.
There are also quite a few variations of the Better Than Sex Cake recipe too, I was surprised to learn a few years ago. I got my recipe from a co-worker who made it for my birthday many years ago and I've made it ever since. I did make a couple of changes of my own though, LOL. Doesn't every baker?
Let's Talk Better Than Sex Cake!
Sylvia's Better Than Sex Cake Recipe
- 1 yellow butter cake mix (and the ingredients to bake it with)
- small can crushed pineapple, with liquid
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1 or 2 bananas
- jar of maraschino cherries
- large package of instant pudding (and the ingredients to make it with);
- small (3 oz) package cream cheese
- flaked coconut (optional)
- pecan pieces, 8 oz package, divided
- medium carton Cool Whip
- 16 oz can pineapple rings
Directions...
I use a 13 x 9 cake pan and flip the cake onto a serving platter to 'finish.' You can experiment with making round layered versions, or just leaving it in the baking pan. It just depends on the occasion and how you want it to look. =)
Prepare cake according to package directions. Cool completely. Remove cake from cake pan onto serving platter. (NOTE: When finished, cake will be HEAVY)
Punch holes in cake with the handle of a wooden spoon.
Cook the crushed pineapple and sugar slowly until the sugar is dissolved. Cool slightly and pour sugar and pineapple over cake. Lay pineapple rings across the top of the cake, cutting in half as needed to cover to the edges.
In large bowl, prepare pudding according to package directions. Cut softened cream cheese into small pieces and mix in to pudding until smooth (no lumps). Add half of Cool Whip carton and mix very well. Refrigerate to set.
Top cake with a thin layer of pudding mixture, then layer with banana slices to edge of cake. Sprinkle with some pecans. Spread another layer of pudding over the banana slices, and covering the entire cake this time, like frosting. "Frost" cake with remaining Cool Whip.
Garnish with coconut, remaining pecans and maraschino cherries.
Keep refrigerated.
Gets better with age, just like sex.
