The Great Horror Quotes of Cinema

Pay attention whenever you hear horror movie quotes spoken by someone, for you are in the presence of a true horror movie fan. For over a century, horror films have provided us a safe haven in which to be scared safely. Part of the reason we love these fright flicks so much is due to the famous dialogue that we all love reciting at our leisure, long after the film has ended. While the monsters, maniacs and demons will always be what draw us to the genre, the spoken word is what makes a scary movie even scarier. This is the way we recognize each other from everyone else - those who aren't hard-core fans of horror. That being said, we're always looking for new members, so I hope you enjoy the list and with any luck, it'll give you a few nightmares.

When I first set out to make this list, I decided that I should impose some rules upon myself in order to keep the article interesting and varied, but as I continued to collect horror film quotes, I realized that was impossible. Why keep amazing dialogue and scary sayings off this list when that's why people are visiting it? I'll use my own judgement as a fan of scary movies to keep this lens interesting and if that means including lesser known quotes from horror movies and multiple horror film quotes from a single movie, then so be it.

A Scary Movie You Must See

Clever dialogue, smart directing and solid acting make this one an unerrated gem.

If you love horror movies with a lot of comedy in them, then this film is one you need to watch. It's a real pity that more people don't know about it, which is why I'm talking about it.

Tucker & Dale vs. Evil

Amazon Price: $8.95 (as of 05/31/2012)Buy Now

Hillbillies are usually the bad guys in most horror movies, but this one turns that unfair stereotype on its ear. Tucker and Dale are two country boys that are going out to their summer home to do a little fishing when a run in with a bunch of college kids and a lot of misunderstandings force them to fight for their lives.

This one has plenty of gore and violence for the horror fans and plenty of laughs for the comedy fan, so either can watch it without fear of it not representing the genre. All I can say is... watch it. You won't be sorry.

There is a similar clip on YouTube to the one you have that has 100 famous horror movie quotes that is a lot better. You should check it out. One of my favorite sayings from the Hellraiser movie is "We have such sights to show you!" I use that one all the time in real life.
  • Walt Sep 5, 2011 @ 7:56 am | delete
Dude! There are just too many good horror movies out there with great dialogue for you limit them one per movie. Do us all a favor and think about changing those rules. One thing I do love is that you are giving credit to the actor or actress. People just don't realize that the one thing that makes a great quote is how it is delivered by the talent. One of my favorite is from the movie Aliens (by the little girl). "They mostly come at night. Mostly."
  • Devin Apr 19, 2011 @ 8:06 am | delete
Here is a good one from Hellraiser III: Hell on Earth that gives me the creeps every time I read it.
" Unbearable, isn't it? The suffering of strangers, the agony of friends. There is a secret song at the center of the world and its sound is like razors through flesh."
  • Bob Apr 9, 2011 @ 1:05 pm | delete
It's a shame you're only doing one from each movie, but I understand why you did it. One of my favorites is from "Silence of the Lambs."
"It puts the lotion on its skin or else it gets the hose again."
    Horror movies rule!
