Queen of the Corgi Lovers

Queen Elizabeth II is arguably the world's most famous corgi lover. I say "arguably" because I, myself, couldn't decide between Her Majesty and the great Tasha Tudor.

Please check out my companion lens: Most Famous Corgi Lovers: Tasha Tudor, and decide for yourself.

The young Princess Elizabeth and corgis in the House of Windsor

When Princess Elizabeth was a young child, her family had a corgi named Dookie.

The Princess was given her own first corgi, Susan, for her 18th birthday.

Since then Her Majesty has had over 30 corgis, nearly all of of which have been descended from her beloved Susan.

The Queen and Her Royal Corgis in Books!

Titus Rules!

This is THE book about the Queen and her corgis. Dick King-Smith is a children's author, but I'm sure I enjoyed this more than my kids did-- it's got so many funny references they didn't get! Prince Phillip's nickname for his wife is "Madge" (short for "Majesty"!), everyone is always tripping over the corgis, and the queen herself shows a surprising amount of spunk! It's a great read-- loads of fun.

The Queen's Holiday

This book is actually about another queen, Queen Victoria, and her corgis. It's an out-of-print children's picture book, but it's very, very cute and worth looking for. Amazon has copies available.

The Windsor Dorgi

The Queen not only has five Pembroke Welsh Corgis, she has also come up with her own "breed" (controversial among purists), which she has styled the "Windsor Dorgi." The dorgi came about when Pipkin, the beloved dachshund of the late Princess Margaret, bred with one of the queen's corgis. Their offspring? The "dorgi"!

Are they just adorable? A charming eccentricity? Inappropriately underfoot at state functions? What do you think of Her Majesty's little herd?

What a wonderful lens! I have a special fondness for Queen Elizabeth and it is so nice to see her with her precious Corgis. I love the pictures - and the video! Nice to know I'm in good company with a fitness routine that consists (mostly for me) of walking and playing with my dog. (I do see a yellow lab in one of those pictures, too!)

History Channel Hypothesizes on Fate of Queen's Corgis in "Life After People"

The show doesn't focus entirely on this, of course! Her Majesty's corgis are just one of the many examples this series uses to show how the world would go on without us. I haven't seen this show yet, but it looks fascinating.
