Strongheart

The First Famous Dog Actor

Strongheart was a German Shepherd whose real name was Etzel von Oeringen. He became the first famous dog movie star. He appeared in silent films in the 1920s.

Originally, Strongheart was originally trained as a German police dog. Later, he was brought to the United States by his owners, who were also film producers. Strongheart starred in many films.

Strongheart was injured while filming when he fell and was burned by studio lights. This later caused a tumor and Strongheart died. Strongheart has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and has a dog food named after him.

The pedigree still exists to this day.

Benji Facts

Interesting Facts About the Mutts That Played 'Benji'

The very first 'Benji' movie was named on the "Top 20 Must-See Family Movies" by People magazine.

Chicage Tribune also named the original Benji movie as one of the best all-time family movies ever.

Benji is the only dog to have appeared as a centerfold in 'Playgirl' magazine.

Benji has been watched on television by more than a billion people.

Benji was the second animal inducted into the Animal Actors Hall of Fame. (Lassie was first, by the way.)

Moose the Jack Russell Terrier

Famous Dog on 'Frasier'

Moose is better known as Eddie from the 'Frasier' long-running television hit show. He became known for his staredowns with Frasier.

Moose was born in Florida on Christmas Eve in 1990. Sadly, he died in June 2006. But he lived a very long life in dog years.

Moose became a famous celebrity because his original family found him too hard to handle. They complained that he chased the cats, chewed up everything, and was always getting into trouble.

He was adopted by a company that trains animals for movies. Moose's trainer said that Moose got the Frasier gig after just six months of training.

After eight years, Moose retired. His son Enzo took his place. Both Moose and Enzo starred in the movie "My Dog Skip".

Peri Gilpin, who played Roz on Frasier, owns one of Moose's sons.
