Fan Fiction Slang & Terms

Fan Fiction has a huge web presence. If you've recently discovered fanfiction, it's like reading a foreign language sometimes. Fan Fiction sites have their own unique brand of language that they have developed. This Squidoo lens features a fan fiction glossary explaining some of the most common terms.

It's a WIP, TBC, so keep checking back for more information. Also, help me out by adding any fan fiction terms that I've missed so far.

MWPP - In Harry Potter fan fiction, this stands for Moony, Wormtail, Padfoot and Prongs.

One Shot - Short story consisting of one chapter

OOC - This means 'out of character'. Basically, if readers are commenting that a fan fiction story has become OOC, it means that a character in the story has done something that doesn't fit their personality as developed by the original author.

Nice to see it all laid out. I hadn't heard of plot-bunnies, so I added them as a note in the open content Complicity Universe - keep 'em multiplying. I don't have any fanfic works on Complicit Simplicity yet, but I just finished Squidooing it online as web fiction.

In fact open content might need adding to your fanfic glossary.

I would include The Petulant Poetess in the Archives List, as well as sycophant hex dot com. Both are Potter Fanfic Archives. Go and check them out. I'm not sure, if it's ok to include the links here, but they can be googled.
