How Using a Point Per Catch System Affects Fantasy Football Player Rankings
The first adjustment you must make is the how you rank each player in the first round. Someone like Shaun Alexander who not only is an injury risk, but never catches any passes, should be drafted much later than usual. Running backs like Brian Westbrook and Reggie Bush gain a massive amount of value. Other backs that don't catch many passes, like Rudi Johnson, can fall out of the first round all together.
The other adjustment you must make is to forget the RB,RB rule most owners follow in the first two rounds. If there isn't an elite RB available to you in the second round you almost always want to go with on of the top 5 receivers. Guys like Steve Smith, Chad Johnson, Marvin Harrison, and Torry Holt are in a league of their own at the WR position. They consistently put up big numbers, and with the added bonus of 1pt/catch they will be out producing the second tier RBs by a huge margin. I am usually only drafting a second round running back if someone else made a huge mistake earlier and someone like Reggie Bush of Laurence Maroney falls to me late. There are plenty of solid 3rd round RBs available to making picking a elite WR a no brainer.
Knowing your leagues rules and how they affect fantasy football player rankings is essential for winning your league. Don't be the guy who drafts Shaun Alexander #3 then passes on Torry Holt in the second round. Players rank much differently when you change the scoring, and knowing those rankings is the key to victory.
