Who Are The Farm Chicks?

In 2002, The Farm Chicks hosted a 'sale' in a barn. Together these two best friends went on to create extremely popular The Farm Chicks Antiques Show and to author a book called The Farm Chicks in the Kitchen.

Today, The Farm Chicks Show is an outdoor event run by one of the two original founding women, which features 200 vendors. It is a summertime destination in Spokane, Washington and people flock to it every year to buy antique and vintage items as well as homemade goods.

If you love outdoor markets that feature antique and vintage items as I do but you are unable to make it to The Farm Chicks Show, you can visit, in a sense, through the two books, The Farm Chicks In the Kitchen and the more recent book, The Farm Chicks Christmas. On this page, you will find my review of these books...and a bit more information about The Farm Chicks.

You can use these books -- the helpful information and the inspiring pictures -- for ideas when you visit YOUR local country sales and of course, you will want to try a few of the recipes.

The Farm Chicks in the Kitchen: Live Well, Laugh Often, Cook Much Reviewed

By Serena Thompson and Teri Edwards

The Farm Chicks in the Kitchen is not just a cookbook it is a lifestyle book. Written by the original farm chicks Teri Edwards and Serena Thompson, the book is full of color, information and pictures for anyone who wants a warm, comfortable country-style home.

This book features a foreword, introduction, and chapters devoted to Serena and Teri's story and the Farm Chicks' story. It also includes recipe chapters with breakfast, appetizer, lunch and dessert recipes. Interspersed amongst the pages are projects for items like a magnetic message center, paint-by-number trays and appliqueing an apron.

Fans of The Farm Chicks love this book, too. A. Methvin said, "It's so fresh and inviting, the picturess great, the recipes and projects so tempting." She made the Enchilada Soup and the Blackberry Crisp right away and called them both delicious.

Another reader made the Chocolate Butter Cake, Beet Salad and Lemon Cookies and took them to her sister's house. They were so impressed, that her sister made her leave the book behind.

Still another reader says she loves how simple the recipes and craft ideas are andthat she really enjoyed learning more about the authors and how they came to be The Farm Chicks.

The Farm Chicks Christmas: Merry Ideas for the Holidays Reviewed

By Serena Thompson

The Farm Chicks Christmas book brims with vintage-style collectibles, homemade treats and 'merry ideas for the holidays.' This book, written by Farm Chick Serena Thompson is, like the first book, also packed full of color, information and pictures for anyone who wants to bring a warm, comfortable, vintage-style feeling into their home for Christmas.

It has two sections, the first which features two lovely and personal stories from the author, one story about the spirit of giving and one about visiting Christmas tree farms.

The second section aims to help you celebrate Christmas and has chapters on creating a friendly holiday welcome, decorating the tree, wreaths and garlands, cupboards and corners, kitchens and pantries, happy memories and holiday recipes.

Where to start? Another beautiful book, readers praise the photography, one reader calling it 'worth the price of admission.' However, it is much more than a collection of amazing photos. Besides great decorating ideas, The Farm Chicks' Christmas also features many craft projects and recipes.

This book, one reader says, "is a nostalgic walk down a snowy memory lane." and I totally agree. Every page is packed as another says, "with eye candy." This book has fewer recipes than the first book, which of course pleases some and disappoints others, but I love it and only wish I had the skill and no-how to pull a Farm Chicks Christmas off for my family.
