Farmsitting, helping the rural community find help
We are offering this service in Western Canada but with the right support, this service could be offered right across North America.
Imagine - One web site or phone number to call to find help for your farm or acreage? One place to go register if you have skills and availability to help someone...... that is what we are building.
We are building a network of people willing to help people.
Farmsitting, helping the rural community lead a balanced lifestyle.
You can't just leave the animals to look after themselves. Spread the word about this service so we can grow the network and help more people. It is just that simple.
Fetching RSS feed... please stand byWhy would you need a Farmsitter?
There are countless landowners in the who need help, and there are people out there willing to help. The problem is, there has been no formal way to link them up. Until now.
AgriConnect is establishing a database of capable, qualified and available Farmsitters, started in Alberta in the fall of 2007. As of April 09 we are now serving Saskatchewan, Manitoba and British Columbia. and we will be offering this service in Ontario by the end of 2009. From this one source, landowners will be able to find a qualified sitter who:
Has the skills to do the work required
Has the availability to do the work
Is in the general location of the farm
Farmers/acreage owners can use this service for full time farmhands, vacation coverage, additional help during peak periods throughout the year, or coverage during illness or injury. It can be for any type of service such as doing chores for a weekend, helping with harvest, seeding or fencing. It could even be someone to check your house and farm while the owners are away on an extended vacation to feed the pets and water the flowers.
Did you know most insurance policies require that your residence be checked every couple of days if you are away?
AgriConnect attending trade shows.
We started this service in the fall of 2007 and we have attended about 20 trade shows around western Canada. People that we talk to about this service are just tickled that something like this exists.
There are over 200,000 registered farms in Canada and at least 5 times that many acreages. If only 10% of them ever needed our service, that is over 100,000 people we could be helping.

- What do you think of this service? The rural community is some what reluctant to try it because they are afraid of leaving their livelihood to a stranger in some cases. All of the farmsitters are checked for references and some of the people in our data base the farmers know. It may be their neighbour who lives down the road or a farmer that retired a few years ago that now lives in a nearby town.
