The Farseer Trilogy
The Farseer Trilogy follows the story of FitzChivalry Farseer and is wrote from his perspective. Fitz is trained as an assassin but not the type of assassin that you would imagine. He is not the best sword fighter or even the best brawler and he possesses a magic that is not what people would expect in fantasy stories.
If you are expecting a Lord of the Rings type story you would be disappointed until you emerged yourself in Robin Hobb's masterful storytelling. There is no elves or dwarves or even goblins and the magic is not from fireball throwing wizards. I don't want to spoil the story by giving it all away, all I can say is if you enjoy fantasy novels this is a must read and a welcome diversion from mainstream fantasy.
The Farseer Trilogy is the first of three trilogies set in The Realm of the Elderlings, the second being The Liveship Traders Trilogy with the latest being The Tawny Man Trilogy.

Robin Hobb is one of those authors whose books will never leave my shelves. Books are my passion as I love to read. There are those I loan out, those I give away and those that will never leave my possession. This is one of those books. Assassin's Apprentice isn't as complicated as say the Liveship Trilogy, but I'm OK with that. Sometimes, it's fun to read a simpler tale told by one character's point-of-view. If it's done well, you never feel like you need to know more. When I say Robin's story was simple, it's only simple from point-of-view, not storyline. Robin has a way of weaving things together. At times, you may feel like it's slow going and wonder "what does this scene matter?" But with Robin, they all matter. She pulls things together and unfolds them bit by bit until you near the end and can't put it down. There's no wasted words with her, only delicately chosen words which paint a stunning picture.

Robin Hobb
Author of The Farseer Trilogy
Robin Hobb is the second pen name of novelist Margaret Astrid Lindholm Ogden (born 1952 in California) who produces primarily fantasy fiction, although she has published some science fiction.
From 1983 to 1992, she wrote exclusively under the pseudonym Megan Lindholm. Fiction under that pseudonym tends to be contemporary fantasy. In 1995, she began use of the pseudonym Robin Hobb for works of epic traditional European Medieval fantasy. She currently publishes under both names, and she currently lives in Tacoma, Washington. As of 2003 she had sold over 1 million copies of her first nine Robin Hobb novels.Voyager Author Biography. She has just finished writing a two volume novel called The Rain Wild Chronicles. The volumes are named Dragon Keeper, and Dragon Haven [http://blogs.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=blog.view&friendId=164960599&blogId=481631518]

Royal Assassin (The Farseer Trilogy, Book 2)

With the second volume of the Farseer trilogy, Robin Hobb has certainly written a compelling saga strong on characterization. The first volume saw young Fitz growing as a boy and learning the ways around the court of Buckkeep, the capital of the Six Duchies. It seems to me that once Fitz was able to grow into his teens, the author finally has more freedom in making him the center of the happenings. Whereas Fitz was mostly a spectator in Assassin's Apprentice, he now tries to direct the action in the court; whether he is cleverly manipulated by others or truly acts on his own is an interesting question. This novel is less a novel of action or of epic proportions. It is obvious that Robin Hobb has no interest in becoming another Tolkien or Jordan. This is a novel of court intrigue, machinations, moves and countermoves. And Fitz finds himself with far more to deal with than he can chew. The characters are even livelier and interesting than in the first novel. I found it remarkable how Fitz seems to grow from page to page as he becomes more observant and active with the daily activities around him.

Assassin's Quest (The Farseer Trilogy, Book 3)
Amazon Price: $7.99 (as of 07/09/2009)![]()
"Assassin's Quest" is the third and final book of Robin Hobb's Farseer Trilogy. When this series began, we met a young boy without a name. This boy was taken in by the royal house of Buck. See, this boy was the illegitimate child of one of the princes. He was given the name FitzChivalry and was trained as an assassin for the king. Through treachery, the king was slain and the prince that has Fitz's loyalty, Verity, was away on a quest to find they mythical Elderlings to enlist their help against the Red Ship Raiders that have been terrorizing the kingdom. With Verity gone and King Shrewd now dead, Prince Regal is free to act against, Fitz, whom he has always hated. At the end of book 2, "Royal Assassin", Fitz was presumed dead by Regal and buried. But like it is said in "The Princess Bride", Fitz was only mostly dead (he took a poison that would simulate death, much like Juliet did in "Romeo and Juliet"). The story picks up several months later and Fitz is in the care of Burrich, the man who has raised him all these years. Fitz acts like an animal, for that is what he believes he truly is (for the poison to work, Fitz had to use the "Wit" magic that has bonded him with a wolf). Burrich is working to restore Fitz's mind and reflexes to that of a human.
