I Love Hats of all Types!

I have always loved hats. My love affair with hats goes back to my childhood. Even though hats went out of fashion when Jackie Kennedy entered the white house, I never lost my passion for head wear. My hat collection has always been and is today a big part of who I am. I collect hats of all types - I wear almost all the hats in my collection.

My many hats make a fashion statement - they're a part of my identity. Some of my hats are quite practical - they protect me or my hair from the weather or the sun. Other hats in my collection are essential fashion accents I simply cannot give up or go without. I wear hats and head wear all year round. When I travel I always pack an assortment of hats and head wear.

A few of my hats are strictly collectibles. These are displayed as cherished curiosities or objects d'art. For example, I don't wear my WWII Swedish army helmet or my brother's retired Marine helmet. I rarely wear my vintage hard hat decorated with its battered red, white and blue peace sign. Its been in my collection since the early 1970s and it's one of my favorites.

This lens is about me and my collection of fashionable hats, collectible hats, souvenir caps and fun to wear chapeaux. Some ladies love shoes - I like foot wear, too, but HATS are my PASSION.

Rayon floral scarf - I wear this as a head wrap or scarf, usually in the fall or winter. It's also an elegant neck wrap with my black leather coat.

Rayon fishnet sash can be worn as a head wrap, belt or scarf. I love to wear this to the beach because the mesh keeps my head cool and my wild hair under control.
Paisley cotton bandanna in pink and black is a long timefavorite. Sometimes worn as a head scarf, occasionally pulled into service as a sweat band, and more often worn as a neck scarf.
My favorite soft knit cotton beret. I have another just like it in wine. I wear this one all year round.
Black Dog Tavern fisherman's hat from Martha's Vineyard. Great for hiking, gardening, birdwatching and yeah, fishing.
Vintage Stetson brand fedora. I wore this almost daily about 15 years ago. Now it's retired - getting fragile.
My wedding and honeymoon hat. I wore the hat band in my hair when Doug and I were married. My daugher made it from porcelain flowers and ribbon. I bought the hat in Bermuda, on our honeymoon.
Viet Nam war era hard hat. Yes, I was against THAT war, too. This hat was not mine, but I kept it after the marriage ended. The peace sign was on the hard hat when my kids' dad wore it to work every day in the early 70's. Sometimes I wear this when we're doing construction (and demo) on our home.
USMC - my brother gave me this as a gag gift for my 50th birthday. He knew I collected hats and military clothing ... and he had just retired as a gunnie.
My only hat when I'm on the mountain bike or roller blades.

When I bought my VW K2, it came with a ski rack, free skis and this cool nylon hat. Love my '98 Golf ...
Blue knit cotton cloche. My head is a bit large, so I stretch this one out when it's wet to make it fit my skull.
Vintage British military fez beret. 1953 issue - I was 2 years old!
My favorite wool beret. I wear vintage brooches on the front.
Silk knit hat-scarf. Warm, lightweight and versatile.
Oh, didn't you know I'm a skier (or was, when I lived in snow country). My traditional wool knit cap with double later ear band.
Bolivian rough wool roll cap. Love this - I have a white one just like this, and a copy of this style made in polar fleece.
Antique cotton lawn baby bonnet. This is a collectible I discovered at the flea market about 20 years ago. Beautifully hand made with the finest stitches.
My hardworking denim floppy brim hat. I wear it for sun and rain protection.
