Fashion Modeling for Anyone!
Becoming A Professional Model
If your face is not your best attribute, maybe you have nice hands or feet; you can model jewelry or shoes. Advertizers for pharmacuticals, fast food chains, commercial product lines and popular food product producers usually all want average looking people to do their commercials, hence, making them more believable to the consumer. Did you ever notice some of the funniest commercials have the most unique looking people doing them? My point is simply that professional models can be of any size, height, or age and be very successful.

Plus Size Modeling
Years ago if you were overweight you had little self-esteem and felt bad enough about it. You would never even think of parading down a runway so everyone can gaze at your every move. It was simply a ridiculous idea. Today, if your overweight, you can model plus size fashions. The requirements for plus-size models are no different from those of high fashion models. They must have excellent skin, hair and teeth, and photograph well. The type of modeling work that plus-size models engage in is comparable to that of other professional models. Work includes being photographed in advertising campaigns, magazine editorials, catwalk work, live-TV work and commercials. Currently, plus-size models are being employed by the media to stimulate healthy self-esteem and body image, especially regarding struggles with eating disorders. So you see, anyone can be a fashion model.

Do You Envy the Life of a Fashion Model?

Great article! Plus models rock. I am considered a "petite" model as I am short by the fashion industry standards. I know that I can be very successful if I put my mind to it and commit to being a success. The good thing about plus/petite modeling is that once you get a contract with an agency that backs you and puts you to work, you can make a great living. Not to diss fashion models, but before they become the Kate Moss's of the industry, they have to scuffle just to make it to the top for a very long time. Oftentimes, they don't get paid very well (even if they are a newbie on the cover of Vogue). It may look like a glamourous job, but it is not. Commercial modeling is much better in my opinion and many plus and petite models are very successful at it. They make great money and get WORK on the regular.
Great article again, and if you have time, check out my article on promotional modeling, one more way to be fabulous and make money in the industry!!
