Anatomy of the Eye(Emmetropia)
Above is a picture of a normal eye. The eye actually works like a camera by focusing light rays. When the light enters the eye it passes first through the cornea, a transparent layer which acts as a lens. Another lens, the crystalline lens behind the cornea further focuses the light before it reaches the retina from the back of the eye. If light is not correctly focused in the retina the eye produces unclear image.

Hyperopia (farsightedness)
Hyperopia is the opposite of myopia. People with such condition have smaller eyeball short or flat for the focusing system of the eye that is why they see far away objects better than than the objects that are near. Light rays from distant objects come to focus too late behind the retina. The cornea needs to be steeper for light rays to focus precisely on the retina.

Myopia (nearsightedness)
People with myopia can only see near objects better than he objects at a distance. This is because the eyeball is too long which becomes too steep for the eye's focusing system. That is why light rays from a distant objects come to focus too quickly in front of the retina rather than on it. The cornea needs to be flatter for the light rays to focus precisely on the retina.
Presbyopia (symptoms of aging)
Usually people who are Presbyopic are old people. When people get older they usually loose the elasticity of their eye which somehow reduces their focus-adjusting ability as part of the aging process.

Astigmatism ("ghost" vision)
People with such condition see objects both far and near with doubled vision. Objects appear to be out of focus. Cause of the uneven diameter or an oblong shaped cornea. The cornea needs to be evenly round for light rays to focus precisely on the retina.
How to Buy a Lens?
First things first!

The Power of the Lens depends on the condition of the person's eye. Before anything else you should first see an Eye Doctor to have an eye exam. Opthalmologist or optometrist uses professional lensmeter to correctly verify the prescribed lens to be used measured in diopters rated at +1.00 to +4.00 diopters. For myopia negative diopter strengths are used.
Convex(converging) lenses - were used to correct both hyperopia(farsightedness) and presbyopia(symptom of aging). +1.00 to +4.00 diopters
Concave(diverging) lenses - treats myopia(nearsightedness). -1.00 to -4.00 diopters

Converging lens bends light rays toward each other while a diverging lens spreads light rays apart.
Bifocals - using both convex and concave lenses to treat both myopia and presbyopia.
How to Buy A Frame?

Tips: To find the desired frame use a ruler or you can use this PRINTED MEASURING SCALE and measure your old reading glasses that best fits you.
Frames are measured in scales of cm/mm as shown below.

- I have 2 pairs of reading glasses both donated because I ca'nt afford my own.
One pair is smart I like, but they keep slipping because they were not mine.
The other pair fits perfectly, but people stare at me, and babies cry when they look at me at church when I wear the glasses, because they are huge and I have a small face. Where can I get a nicer pair for around R200?
Please help me.
