The first thing you need to realize is that there is not positive relationship between the number of hours spent in the gym and the amount of muscle gained. In fact many studies have proven that working out for longer than 47 minutes is fairly detrimental to your results.

At this point your body begins releasing cortisol which is a stress hormone. After this your body begins using a mixture of cortisol and adrenaline for the exercise. This means that your muscle fibers are not being broken down during exercises which will greatly diminish your potential for any gains.

Keep your workouts short and intense. Use 60-90 second rest intervals.

Low Repetitions

A lot of people believe the "best" repetition range for your sets is between 8-12. This is actually very effective if your aim is to build muscle endurance as well as some strength. However, if you are looking for fast muscle building, then you really need to lower the amount of repetitions you do for each exercise.

I suggest you lift heavier weight so that your repetition range is 4-8. These lower reps work to induce large muscle and strength gains.

You NEED Protein

Protein is vital to building muscle. Without the protein, your muscles will have nothing to rebuild themselves with. I strongly suggest you get about 1 gram of protein for each pound of body weight. This will ensure your body is fully nourished with the protein it needs to give you the gains you want.
