Model Railroading Made Easy-(er)
It'a almost a "right" for a boy in the United States to have a model train set. Although many families don't feel they have the room for a "real" layout, and resort to smaller scale trains like HO, N, or Z, others feel that the only "real" model trains are those produced by Lionel.
Traditionally people have looked at Lionel trains longingly, but have many have decided that the 0-27 track on which the trains ran was just too difficult to put together, and they didn't really like the look of the track. Lionel's FasTrack solves those problems!
What is FasTrack?

Since Lionel began manufacturing FasTrack in 2003 the number of model railroaders who have adopted it has grown dramatically.
Why Switch to FasTrack?
O-27's Been Around Forever! But FasTrack's Better!
1.Lionel FasTrack has an easy, snap-together locking mechanism for sure connections. With the solidity of the connection there is virtually no chance that the tracks will separate once the layout has been completed. Not only that, but you can be sure that when you snap the track into place it is a good, solid connection.
2. Patented center half-pin allows for track orientation in either direction without the need for moving pins from one end to the next. (Any you remember how much trouble it was to move pins from one side of the track to the other with the older track.)
3. Two terminals under each piece of straight and one terminal under each piece of curved track for transformer and/or accessory power connections - no Lockons required! (Locating Lockons for my Christmas layout used to be a lot of trouble. And now I can bring power to any track on the layout with no hassle!)
4. Curves are O-36 to give locomotives and cars a more realistic appearance as they go around corners. The larger diameter also allows for the operation of larger locomotives than is possible on O-27 or O-31 track. The additional realism is a boost, but there is a little loss of flexibility for layouts in really tight spaces.
5. Switches feature 100% non-derailing capability, regardless of which direction they are thrown. No more stopping, putting the train back on the track and re-starting!
So FasTrack features enhanced realism, solid connections, fewer derailings, quicker layout assembly, better connection to the transformer, and many other advantages! Why wouldn't you switch?

A 4x8 FasTrack Layout
FasTrack Makes Christmas Layouts Easy!
Tell men that you have a train layout around your Christmas tree and watch the longing in their eyes!
They probably don't have a Christmas layout. Ask why not and they'll almost always tell you that it is just too much trouble to put up and take down a Christmas layout! Not with FasTrack. Simple Christmas layouts can be set up in well under half an hour!

Is There an Alternative to FasTrack?
Yes. GarGraves
GarGraves Trackage Corporation has a product known a Flex Track. There seem to be some distinct advantages and disadvantages to Flex Track. Many people prefer the more realistic appearance of the ties. And due to the flexibility of the track, it is possible to make the curves fit the layout's contours better.
