Keeping your cat healthy
Cats give us a lot and they deserve the best in return, yet sometimes the best isn't healthy. So how do you spoil your cat rotten and still keep it healthy. I am not a vet or anything, just an owner of a loving cat who, like many of us fights to keep her weight down. Sometimes she succeeds and sometimes I fail her. Hopefully some things in this lens will help keep your cat fit and healthy. Even if you cat is thin it doesn't hurt to check on exercise and nutrition.

If you love your cat you must resist. This is why.
Someone once said that cats only eat what they need. This has been a belief of mine for many years. It was a shock to find that cats do in fact stuff themselves. Every time I went into the kitchen my cat followed crying. So I fed her. In addition to that if I ate, she sat looking up at me like the cat above. So I fed her treats, nothing fancy just chicken etc.
This resulted in a very heavy cat!
I learnt my lesson - but my cat was still heavy.
So if you love your cat don't buy the I'm starving look, its a well practiced act to manipulate you.

Exercise is Fun!
If your cat isn't moving enough then there's a good chance they are overweight or unhealthy. Cats like us need exercise, unlike us they can't make a conscious choice, so we have to make it for them. Cats are difficult as if they don't want to exercise, they won't. So get a mixture of cat toys to give them variety and make it sun. Some toys will work others wont. Cats are fussy too, so sometimes they change what they like?
Remember cats are naturally designed to short chase and pounce so if you can encourage their natural behaviour you stand a better chance. Also, you have a better relationship with your pet if you fulfil its needs.

But they dont need a treat
OK a bit corny but its true. The food selected here is very good quality cat food. Im not a vet or anything but am an expert on a very fat cat (sorry Masie!) who is now slimmish. Using other methods quite simply didn't work, normal cat food was too fattening. Both Hills and Royal Canin do very good diet products to help lower and maintain your cats weight. They are complete foods as well so you know they will help keep your cat healthy. My vet uses both of these products. My cat lost more weight on Canin than Hills but its just what suits your cat. Remember to build up any new food gradually.
If your cat is a serious case get your vets advice. They might do a pet weight club (yes really!) mine do. Your cat gets weighed in by a nurse each month and they advise you on food and exercise etc. Also, your vet can prescribe special food diets that you can only get through them if necessary.
