Who wants to look like a sausage stuffed into a casing when swimsuit time comes? Not me that's for sure and if your reading this not you either! Well I found out that some of the tricks I had learned over the years were not going to shed the pounds the way I wanted. I was bummed; maybe my age had caught up with me...
They say it's all over after 30 and that if you put on weight from 30 on you will have a bear of a time getting back in shape. Hey I resembled that bear after too much winter hibernating!
They are wrong! I went from roughly 20% bodyfat to 11% in 3 months and you can do that and better!
I'm not going to tell you about some magical "superfruit" that will melt the fat off or some over the counter diet aid that will trick your body into burning fat.
I didn't even really change the way I ate. I'm going to use a bad word here, excercise, yep there is no way around it folks to lose the excess fat we all have to get a little more active.
I started walking on a treadmill at a moderate pace until I was more comfortable and could stand a slightly quicker pace.
Not too hard huh? Walking is one of the most beneficial forms of excercise you can engage in for weight loss and your health. It is within the reach of most people and it doesn't even require a treadmill. You can plot out a mile long course in your car and start with whatever you can handle and move up from there.
In two weeks time I had lost 2lbs and had more energy. I was excited and wanted to put my new energy to good use by pushing myself just a little harder. I also started doing some calistenics to tone up my muscles,. You see I found out that Muscle takes alot more calories to maintain than fat which speeds up your metabolism.
I also had a friend who was trying to get back in shape too. So we would encourage each other and share tips that we found helpful. Sometimes having someone else to be accountable too can spur you on when you don't feel like excercising. Make it a competition to see who can reach their goal faster.
The number one thing to remember as you go about this process is not to get discouraged. More than likely you did not wake up one day overweight, it happens gradually and it will take gradual steady progress to change your body into what you want it to be.
In addition to the excercise I started taking stock of what I was eating and decided to cut back on fried foods, candy and doughnuts. Hey those were my weaknesses you pick your own! Notice I said I cut back...I don't recommend going on an ultra strict diet or cutting out your favorite foods because it just makes for a miserable experience.
It is also beneficial to eat four or more smaller sized meals instead of two or three meals. This combined with your excersize routine will rev up your metabolism so that your body will start to burn off some of the stored fat.
Lets face it, most of us cringe at the thought of excercise and diets because they are both equated with deprivation of fun. So make it fun and a part of your life and you will succeed!
