Holland 1944
A remarkable wartime photograph of his - a snow covered bomb crater in Holland in the winter of 1944 - says a lot about Dad's gentle nature. He found beauty in even the worst situations and none of his surviving war photos are of the ravages of war or war-weary people.He had a mischievous sense of humour and was a great prankster. One of his wartime stories still had him chuckling 40 years later. He and a friend from his photographic unit thought it would be a good joke to block the chimney of the officers' warm and cosy accommodation hut. A piece of slate was found and placed over the top of the chimney. Then they waited. It wasn't long before the door was flung open and the officers tumbled out into the snow, convulsed with coughing, thier eyes streaming and surrounded by billowing smoke!

Best "Father's Day" Ever!
How many girls can say that they helped their Dad to celebrate his 21st Birthday? Well I did. Born on 29th February 1904, he only had one birthday every 4 years so by the time his 21st came around he was already 84! We had a great time with a wonderful party, but the big surprise I organised was a flight in the airship then operating over Sydney. The ground staff were in on the surprise and greeted him with a bottle of champagne! He was thrilled.The chief of the ground crew had spent his whole career catering to the whims and fancies of first class airline passengers, and he said to me

Shirt: King of the Grill
My father loved a good the good old Aussie barbecue, if someone else did the barbecuing - being English this was not something he'd ever done. But he cooked an amazing steak and kidney pie! I'd bring my crew home after a twilight sailboat race and there would be my father to greet us with dinner - individual pies with peas! He had spent the afternoon making them for us, closely watched by his little schnauzer in case any tidbits "accidently" dropped to the floor. Those pies were legendary!

Yes, I know it's a bit unusual for kangaroos to get involved in picking out fathers day presents, but we have fathers too. They're called "boomers" and "Old Men", so I gave Penny a hand.Now, when you click on one of the cards or gifts I helped Penny pick out for all the fathers, stepfathers and grandpas of the world, you will go to the product page. Immediatly underneath the picture you will find a row of share buttons so you can easily bound it along to your friends so they can see it too.
Underneath that it will tell you who created it and next to that is their store button so if you click that, in one bound, you'll go right to their store and find even more wonderful gift ideas. You can then type "Dad" or "Father" into their search window and find all the appropriate gifts and cards in that store.

How Penny found Zazzle
Penny said she found out all about shopping on line at Zazzle when she was looking for somewhere to make postcards (pictures of me!) to send to friends and that they (the team at Zazzle) do a really, really good job and are super nice people to deal with, but more than that, there aren't just postcards and prints, but all manner of gifts from mugs to shoes and mousepads. (I asked her about mousepads and she said they don't have anything to do with mice and it's a bit like RAM doesn't have anything to do with sheep). And then there are fantastic iPad and iPhone cases. Penny said too that it's also really easy to create things yourself at Zazzle so that you can make cards and gifts for your friends with pictures of your own special pussycat and add its name and other words.
