Protein is a fat killer

There is a common misconception that to loose weight you must reduce calories and increase physical activity. New studies are proving this theory to be dead wrong.

New advances in diet and weight loss are revealing some pretty intresting discoveries on the subject of metabolism and the role it plays on how the body regulates fat storage. Protein is proving to be one of the most important elements in the destruction of fat cells.

Introducing protein 

Protein is the building block of muscle

Protein is a major component of muscle, in fact muscle is made up mostly of protein. You get most of your daily consumption of protein from meats and eggs. Other sources of protein come from vegetables and grains.

Protein is made up of amino acids, and jsut like protein is the building block of muscle amino acids are the building blocks of protein.

There are 20 types of amino acids nine of which are considered essential,which means that the body cannot produce them, there fore you must get them through the foods that you eat and supplements.

Without these nine essential amino acids muscle growth stops, and when muscles stop growing fat abounds. We get most of our protein from consuming such foods as fish,chicken,steak,eggs and whey. However these foods don't always contain a consistent balance of amino acids, therefore it becomes necessary to complete this balance through supplements. Remember if any of the nine essential amino acids are missing muscles won't grow,but fat will.

This is accomplished through the basic physiological functions of the body such as your heart beat,lung and brain function and digestion, also refered to as RMR or Resting Metabolic Rate.

Speaking of digestion, did you know that approximately 10 to 30 percent of the calories burnt every day are burnt through the process of digestion? That is amazing just digesting the food you eat burns calories, it gets even better.

Your body burns twenty five (25) of every 100 calories you consume just to digest PROTEIN! Amazing isn't it. That is why protein is a fat killer.

Burn the fat Feed the muscle 

To burn the fat you have to destroy the muscle

Ok lets do the math. 60 to 80 percent of the total daily calorie consumption is burned while you are doing nothing through regular physiological body functions. Of those calories 10 to 30 percent are burned through digestion and 25 of every 100 calories is burned just digesting protein. Man, why not add a fitness program to the mix?

Well the truth is exercise done the right way helps boost this process in one very important way. When you exercise particularly weight lifting breaks down the muscle fibers literaly tears them. Your body has to repair the muscle through the use of protein that is consumed in your diet this process also burns calories but now some of that energy used to repair the muscles comes fat tissue in the body. There is a whole lot more to it than that but I'm going to keep it simple.

When the muscle tissue is broken down through exercise it creates gaps in the fibers, your body fills these gaps with new tissue made up mostly of protein. Once this repair is made the muscle is now bigger and stronger. This is a healing process so your immune system is also strengthed through it all.

Studies have shown that weight bearing exercises burn more fat and create a healthier lifestyle than most other exercises. Exercise programs 

I can help you find great exercise programs

Fitness is my passion. But lets look at fitness and ask this question, What is your definition of being fit? Most people have this image in ther head that to be fit you have to look like a body builder or a runway model. This just isn't the case. Most of us work at minimum 40 hours a week, I average 65 to 70 hours a week and have only 3 and a half days to dedicate to a fitness porgram. My theory is this, and I know that there are many who will disagree with me, but I feel that a person reaches their fitness goals one step at a time. You have to set short term goals.

For instance if you are just starting out your goal might be just loosing weight ,that is fine. If you have the right information and a good program to follow you can achieve that goal and when you do you will be motivated to set new goals I will assure you of that.

The problem with that beach bum image that most of have in our heads is that some see it as an impossible goal. Others view it as a motivational tool, but when we get started in a fitness program reality rears its ugly head and most give up and that is sad.

In a nust shell Fitness is changing you life one step at a time. If you get started the right way the results will come much faster than you could imagine.

One more point on this subject. My fitness goals are mass and power so I lift as heavy as I can to get as big and strong as possible. I know that I will probably never compete but that is not my goal. I feel good about myself and my medical report is excellent. The great thing about this is I am motivated to do better and that is a good thing.
