Fattoria Voltrona
Getting There is Half the Fun
Fattoria Voltrona is located at the center of a geographic triangle that includes Florence, Siena and Volterra. Just 5 kilometers from the medieval town of San Gimignano, the farm is assessible by a squiggly country road, formerly a cattle track. We were lost for over a hour trying to find it the first time. Luckily, being lost in Tuscany is never a bad thing... there is beauty everywhere. We were delighted to finally arrive at the main farm house, and were greeted warmly by one of the owners, who promptly served our group a bottle of the family's own delicious wine. Almost immediately it started to pour rain, so we settled in on the covered porch and viewed a most spectacular show, culminating in a vibrant pair of rainbows. Staying at the Farm
The farmhouses at Voltrona are surrounded by spectacular gardens, where guests are welcome to relax or curl up with a good book. Dinner is served every evening in the barn or under the stars on the terrace, where a genuine feast of flavors can be had in the company of the other guests who end the day toasting and sharing their travel stories. Voltrona's terrace offers a fabulous panoramic view over the valley below and is the ideal place to refresh yourself with a bottle of wine. While there you can pass the time hiking, horseback riding and cycling along country roads, through forests, villages, archeological sites and rural hamlets. You also can fish in the pond or take a dip in the swimming pool. Touring the Countryside in Style
Since our stay, Fattoria Voltrona has added a small herd of Icelandic horses, which are used for excursions through the Tuscan countryside. Riders are treated to breathtaking views of nearby San Gimignano and neighboring vineyards, olive groves and woodlands. Discover Tuscany

You know Kim, I have been 'working' on hubby for several years now to get him either on Survivor or Big Brother as I think that he could be a contender! However, if I shared this idea with him -- he'd be off to Tuscany and be in hog-heaven. ;)
