My Favorite Beer Ads. # 6 - 10

Ranked #18,156 in Entertainment, #200,121 overall

The Quest For The Best Beer Ad. Continues

This is my second beer ads page - the first is at My Favorite Beer Ads. # 1 - 5 - and continues my collecting of beautifully made beer commercials from around the world - this time, Brazil, Australia, Canada & Bulgaria.

Analyzing the commercials, the message is clear - the demographic of the average beer drinker is someone who thinks he's slim, 25, likes pretty girls and has a great sense of humor.

Well, I'll certainly drink to that.

Of course, whether that self-image has anything to do with Reality is another question, altogether.

A Beer Joke

a sophisticated German gentleman walks into a Hollywood bar

A sophisticated German gentleman walks into a Hollywood bar, sits down, looking the barman up and down condescendingly. He finally says:

"Barman. I am Dr. Jurgen Warmhans, the world's most famous gynecologist. I have an hour to kill before I see the demanding movie-star, Angelina Jolie. Have you any specials today - I feel that I shall need some, as you say, Dutch courage?"

The bartender, who, like many in Hollywood, had slept with Ms. Jolie during her "wild" days but has retained enough chivalry to feel he should defend her - even if passive-aggressively - replies:

"As a matter of fact, Dr. Warmhans, we have a new drink, created only last week by yours truly. It's a mix of Pabst Blue Ribbon Beer poured over warmed Smirnoff Vodka."

Warmhans replies:

"Beer and vodka? Good grief, man, that sounds ridiculous. That's a worse combination than Ms. Jolie and the sad Brad Pitt. Still, probieren geht über studieren! (the proof of the pudding is in the eating!) What are you calling zat monstrosity of yours?"

The bartender replies:

"As a gynecologist I thought it would be right up your alley. I've named it - a "Pabst Smir."

# 7: Bulgaria's Ariana Beer Ad

This ad. stars Mara Otvarachkata, a popular Bulgarian Chalga (pop-folk) singer in the role that brought her the nickname The Beer Opener.

N.B.: The slogan at the end says "Ariana - For Every Thirst".

"Michael Jackson has sacrificed his liver so that others might know what beers are around! This book covers just about every major beer there is. The only complaint I have is that I cannot taste them all. It covers the history of beer, different types of beers, different beer making techniques (you will be amazed!), in short - it covers everything about beer!"
Top 1000 reviewer Isala Fairbanks, Alaska

"The biggest draw of this book for me was the layout. Each of the 500+ pages is occupied by a single beer, which is pictured in both it's bottle incarnation and also as a draft, giving you not just an idea of what the beer looks like but also the official glassware it's intended to be served in. Some of the more unusual glassware includes a beer from Oregon that is served in a pint glass with a half-log as it's base!"
Jeremy Ulrey, Austin, Texas

"Hoist a glass, or many to this excellent book."

Great Beer Quotes

well, sort of!

Beer: So much more than just a breakfast drink.
A sign at Whitstran Brewery, Prosser, Washington, USA

"Beer makes you feel the way you ought to feel without beer."
Australian poet Henry Lawson

"Not all chemicals are bad. Without chemicals such as hydrogen and oxygen, for example, there would be no way to make water, a vital ingredient in beer."
Comedian Dave Barry

Beer Costumes - Everybody's Got To Have One, Surely?

wenches' dresses, man-sized bottles, fake beer bellies - can you live without one?

Whether you're polka dancin' badly for the Oktoberfest or buying a slinky something for your oom pa pa mama, just remember, the more beer you drink, the better the costumes look.

Ambitious Brew: The Story Of American Beer

the story of how beer rapidly became America's #1 alcoholic beverage

"A fascinating and well-documented social history that sheds fresh light on the bubbly sociable beverage."
Chicago Tribune

"From lager-making German immigrants to today's microbrew-meisters, a sudsy, briskly told survey of American beer."
Entertainment Weekly

Ambitious Brew: The Story of American Beer

Amazon Price: $8.62 (as of 02/16/2012)Buy Now

"In the 1830s, few Americans had ever heard of, let alone tasted, beer. At that time, rum and whiskey were the favorite beverages of the American drinking public with English ale running a distant third.

Over the next half-century, however, thousands of enterprising German immigrants transformed American tastes so that, by 1880, beer had decisively supplanted all other liquors as the American national beverage. Ambitious Brew is an engaging account of that transformation. "
Evelyn I. Sears

"Ambitious Brew chronicles the history of American beer beginning with the first German American immigrants...The combination of immigration history and famous American brewery stories makes this book very entertaining...[&] the inclusion of more recent American Beer success stories gives the book a contemporary usefulness..."
Lisa Panetta-Sawaya MA, Michigan

And Another Beer Joke

a length of rope walks into a bar

A length of rope walks into a bar, sits on a stool and orders a beer. The bartender says:

"We don't serve ropes here."

Dismayed and disappointed, the rope goes out but then gets an idea. He stops a drunk and asks:

"Will you please grab both ends of my strands, pull them apart as much as you can and then tie a knot in me?"

The drunk obliges - it somehow makes sense to him - and the rope then strides back into the bar and again orders a beer, this time, in a very deep voice. The bartender looks him over and says:

"Say, aren't you the same rope who was in here before?"

"No," says the rope in his deep voice, shaking his head from side to side. "I'm a frayed knot."

"If you like Artie Lange and get his New Jersey humor you will love this. Very simple movie with no depth at all just funny lines, funny scenes but you need to understand the Jersey thing to get it. The styles, the attitudes, the dress code, the language, the atmosphere, the girls, their hair, a great NJ spoof."
S. L. Marshfield, MA

"Foul? Yes.
Rude? That's right.
Hilarious? Absolutely."
Ryan Lewis Bay Area, CA.

"I laughed so much that I was in tears and my face and stomach hurt. This movie's not for everyone but if you love raunchy, politically incorrect, nothing-is-sacred comedy, then you'll love this movie."
Nicole Turner Claymont, DE

"The movie is really about the challenging transition from college to the 'real world', as several of the film's subjects appear paralyzed at the thought of having to shift into a reality that demands more from them than the ability to sink a ball into a half filled cup...One young man sums it up very well when he is sitting in a Philadelphia park and states that he is 'not yet ready for life 2.0'."
Amazon reviewer A. J. Tuttle

"While getting drunk is often the bottom line for most, Last Cup does a great job of caputuring the competitiveness and pressure that [usually] goes into a game of beer pong. The comedy is absolutely top notch too. "
Amazon reviewer PS Mazzola

"As an avid beer pong player and general game enthusiast, Last Cup supplied me with enough fiery motivation to play a game of Beer Pong before, during and after, as it invoked my competitive emotions and fired me up!"
Amazon reviewer J. S. Hendrick
