My Flower Close-Up Photos

A few years ago, I discovered macro photography. At the time, I didn't even know that was what it was called. I just wanted to take some pretty close-up pictures of the flowers in my garden.

It didn't stop there. Soon I took the camera everywhere with me; for walks, shopping, visiting friends. You never know when you might see a flower to capture with the camera. Now I have thousands of photographs and I've picked out a few to share with you here.

My Tips on Taking Flower Photos

I started out using a Canon Powershot A550 which fits easily into my pocket when I take a walk. Now I use a Canon Powershot SX20is.

What Do You Usually Photograph?

Beautiful work! I usually shoot landscapes and action shots, but I'm recently been trying to work on close-ups. Did you use fill-flash on any of these or is it all natural lighting?
  • vallain May 27, 2012 @ 2:50 pm | delete
Lisa - I just use the natural light. For me, it seems that flash bleaches the colors too much. There's so much I still need to learn.

Beautiful shots! I love taking macro photography of flowers and plants.

    Hi Virginia,
I like your photos very much! I also love taking pictures of them, it never gets boring. What camera and lens do you have? I have a Canon 40D with a Canon 17-85mm f4/5.6 lense. Would like an aperture of f2.8 but can't afford that yet. My work on flickr is at http:/www.flickr.com/people/geni-spy.
Take care and happy shooting, Geni

I use a Canon SX20is. Point and shoot, but excellent zoom and good macro capability.
