Favorite SciFi Movies

Hey! Love great science fiction movies? So do I. This lens is about one of my passions. The image to your left is one of my favorite scifi movies of all time.  The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the Eighth Dimension.  It's a 1984 film starring (among other notables) Peter Weller and John Lithgow.

I have always felt that good science fiction holds up a mirror to the human race and forces us to examine our strengths and weaknesses.

Great SciFi Movie Classics

These are among the best of the best. The essential classics and by no means a complete list.

The Day the Earth Stood Still

This 1951 classic was directed by Robert Wise. It makes the point that we Earthlings basically don't trust anyone.

The War of the Worlds

Forget Tom Cruise. This is the 1952 version starring Gene Barry. It's the best one. Incidentally, it was produced by George Pal who brought us Destination Moon.

Rocketship X-M

A young Lloyd Bridges (later of television's Sea Hunt fame) stars in this 1950 must have movie. Noah Beery Jr (he played Jim Rockford's dad on TV in the 1970's Rockford Files) also stars.

The Thing from Another World

This is the original and still the best. Released in 1951, it stars James Arness as "The Thing." Of course, he would later go on to achieve cultural fame as TV's Matt Dillon on "Gunsmoke."

Destination Moon

Considered by many as the scifi movie that started it all. This 1950 production by George Pal earned an Academy Award for special effects.
