Can't Miss TV ~ My 10 Favorite Television Shows to DVR
Ranked #2,992 in Entertainment, #82,582 overall
I DVR my favorite TV shows, do you?
I have favorite TV shows, but I do NOT like to watch commercials.
I especially do not like to watch TV shows on cable network channels like BBCAmerica or USA. There are just TOO MANY ads. So I DVR my favorites.
That is why I LOVE my DVR (digital video recorder). I can record the shows and then zip thru the ads if I want. Oh yes, me being in control. I am pretty good at zipping, too. I have a very quick reaction time compared to many.
(Yes, I am the one that is the first to notice that the red light has turned green at an intersection. I could win a drag race because of this skill.)
I love the freedom that the DVR gives me.
Now I can watch a show when I want. After all, isn't it all about me and what I want to do?

Please Note: I actually have 2 Top Ten Lists here. You might think that I watch a lot of TV, but I usually only watch what I DVR or movies (without commercials, of course!).
What is a DVR?
DVRs (digital recording device) record TV programs to a hard-disk drive, letting you save shows for later viewing. You can pause and rewind live TV, and if you let the show run on for a while, you can also speed through commercials.
DVRs also let you schedule programming, including recording a whole season of a particular show. The most famous DVR is TiVo, but another option is to rent a DVR from your cable or satellite provider.

DirecTV Plus HD DVR
This is what I use. It has loads of memory. It is not loud - the last one I had hummed!
Just in case you like to read more than you like to watch TV:
The Dexter series by Jeff Lindsay is one fabulous read. The subject is gruesome, but Lindsay manages to make Dexter lovable and humorous. I love the show, but I really love the books.
The same is true of the Charlaine Harris books about Sookie Stackhouse. The HBO series does not have the same humor that the novels do. You just might find you like spending time reading the Southern Vampire Series!
The No.1 Ladies' Detective Agency was a best selling series long before HBO made the delightful mini-series. Give it a try.

- I like DVR. I am not too skilled at it yet. I can't find Criminal Intent. It's on USA I think. Jeff Goldblum is a good new character on that show.

- I've never used a DVR--and I don't actually watch much TV these days--but it sounds like a great gadget. I can imagine how much shorter shows are without the commercials. And I wouldn't mind being able to DVR the few shows I do watch, including Dancing With The Stars and American Idol. It never fails that I get called out for Search & Rescue stuff RIGHT when those programs start.

- I never bother to flip through channels, but I'll scan the channel listings while watching my shows! I have a dual-tuner HD DVR even though I do not have an HD TV yet. I need more storage! I record too much! :)
