A good story gets me every time

We grew up without TV. Not because my parents were fanatic, but we couldn't get reception where we lived in Montana.

Because of this, my siblings and I were always easy to take on a trip. We were never bored, as long a there was a TV to watch. And we weren't particular about what we watched either. I remember one Montreal hotel room, when we went to see the World Fair in 1968. We watched French shows on TV. We had no idea what was going on, but we were fascinated with the TV, nevertheless.

In the olden days (10 years ago?), you couldn't ever miss your favorite show's airing date because that was it, sayonara, it was history. The advent of DVDs helped with this but so has the internet as you can watch your shows whenever you want. Or rent them on Netflix. For those few must haves...buy them for continued viewing.

You won't find "Lost" here or "ER." They're perfectly good series, just not my cup of tea. There's a place where you can add YOUR favorites, though.

By the way...in our family that all powerful and controlling equipment normally called the Remote is called the Zapper.

Let's Just Get This One Out of The Way...

Grey's Anatomy. Fantastic show. In its 6th season. Thursday night on ABC. We call it church night in our family (or rather I call it church night which is code for BE QUIET AND DON'T INTERRUPT).

ABC has one of the best online viewers. You can watch recent episodes here.

Really, I watch it for it's well-written story!

What's Going To Happen In This Season?

Meredith and Derek seem settled down and happy. But Izzy has run away from home and that new doctor who's name I can't remember seems to be in love with two women. Meanwhile the Chief has turned into a bad alcoholic with Meredith covering for him. What's your best guess at how it's going to turn out?

My prediction:

Ener-G, at 8am on September 24, 2008 predicts:

Instead of internal problems keeping them apart, it looks like it will be external challenges.

The Chief gets fired and Derek takes over.

Ener-G, at 8pm on July 11, 2009 predicts:

Gee, did Izzy and George die (rumor is that Izzy will be back..no word yet on George).

Ener-G, at 9am on May 17, 2009 predicts:

Marriage by post-its! Is that legal in Washington?

Ener-G, at 10pm on March 27, 2009 predicts:

Dereck batted the engagement ring into the forest! I'm in shock.

Ener-G, at 4pm on October 23, 2008 predicts:

Geez, I'm already wrong with this prediction. Meredith is back to her old story line of doubt and double doubt.

The Closer

Okay, I'll confess. I started watching this one because I had had a traumatic experience with a southern client and was trying to figure out the southern woman's mind set. After that situation healed, I continued to watch because Kyra Sedgwick is brilliant in this role. Find it on TBS.

Kyra Takes Out Her Suspect

A closer is a police investigator who gets a confession before a trial, thereby speeding up justice and saving the state a lot of money. Brenda always gets her confession...

Big Love

HBO once again pulls off a rather bizarre topic (Mormon polygamy) with brilliant writing. Even the polygamists in Utah watch this show (except they don't understand why HBO throws in so much nudity...they are under the misconception that it's a nice family show). It's so believable that the viewer is left wondering...why wouldn't one have multiple wives...or husbands!

6 Feet Under

I'll admit, there's not too many series that I watch from start to finish. This was one. Alan Ball (writer for American Dream) had the vision for this one as he explored people's reactions to death and dying through the eyes of a family-run mortuary business. The last episode of the last season was brilliant!

Is This A Spoiler?

No, this will not spoil it all. Because it's about the journey not the end. What brought them to this place in their lives?

Curb Your Enthusiasm

A little humor please!

How does a writer top Seinfeld? This is the what came next for writer, producer and actor Larry David who plays himself in this series. Another HBO production.

The Office: U.S. Version

Steve Carrell is one of the most brilliant comedic actors ever. His role in The Office continues to delight me in a laugh-out-loud/squirm-on-the-couch way...it's so awkward!

Dexter

After 6 Feet Under, Michael Hall went on to do this series for Showtime. He plays a forensic blood-spatter scientist who is also a serial killer. And we like him for it!!! That's the magic of good writing. I always feel better about my own odd obsessions after watching this show. There's nothing like the power of relativity!

Speak Your Passion Here

This may be like trying to answer the chicken or the egg question (or the chicken crossing the road question), but is TV a BAD medium? Can anything good come from it? Is there anything to watch on those 600 channels of digital TV?

Is too much TV bad for you?

Loading Fetching blurbs now... please stand by

Yes! It takes me away from my computer.

OhMe says:

I guess too much of anything is bad for you but I enjoy TV and am more concerned about the time I spend on my computer.

No! (Accept, maybe, too many reality TV shows).

Smallville

What can I say? I was trying to find something for my son to watch that wasn't gratuitous violence and checked this out as a possibility. I got hooked and now eight seasons later...will this be their final season? It's all about Clark Kent before he became Superman. In other words Superteenager. Catch it on CB or just wait to watch the series on Netflix (CB has a gazillion commercials on their shows...very boring).

And yes, my son did get hooked!

The Medium

The one show about a psychic that I give thumbs up to. This series is based on the life of psychic Allison Dubois, psychic soccer mom, solving crimes in Phoenix! Played by actor, Patricia Arquette. You can catch this on NBC (their internet player is not as good as ABC). While you're there, catch up on the Saturday Night Live skit of Hlllary and Palin debating. Hilarious!

Law and Order

When you are feeling chaotic, down and out, or like the bad guys always seem to win...watch an episode of Law and Order, which I think is the longest running show ever. ER fans correct me, if I'm wrong on this one. Lots of reruns on TBS or current season on NBC.

Watch TV on Your Computer

More networks are offering their shows via the internet. It's free and there are less commercials! These links work for both Mac and PC.
ABC
Great list of shows to watch, whenever you want to. Best viewer by far.
NBC
Their viewer isn't as good as ABC's but I catch up on Medium when I need to.
Netflix
If you're a member of Netflix, you can watch many movies streamed to your computer.
Hulu
Free TV shows and movies. Hilarious ads.

I rarely watch TV anymore (mostly news and ... um ... American Idol), but I've seen a few of these shows. The Office and Law & Order I really like, and, yeah, I'm familiar with Dr. McDreamy. :) These days, though, I spend most of my time either outdoors or online, so the TV--the one small one we have--is usually off.

The Closer and Law and Order are the only two favorites that we have in common. I will have to check out some of the others you wrote about. Great work on this lens. I enjoyed my visit here. Thank you.

The only TV show out of all these that I've seen is Smallville, and I loved it, although I work evenings, so I haven't seen it in a long time. Maybe I should check it out again...

Hi gia! Thanks so much for educating me about current TV series. Since I don't have a TV connection, almost all these shows are new to me. I DO watch Netflix movies so I can rent them there.
