He-Man Defender of the Universe

Hello World....I was going through my attic a few hours ago and came across a small cardboard box that I remembered putting away some 24 - 25 years ago.

I couldn't resist taking it down and having a look through.

As I opened it and went through the contents - it brought back a flood of memories of my 3 boys childhood and they fun they had playing with their He-Man Characters. They would have only been aged 5, 3 and 1 back then, now they are grown men.

I could not resist this trip down memory lane as I tried to recall the characters and the storyline from what was one of my son's favourite toys from the past. I hope you enjoy this trip too......

Masters of the Universe - I Have the Power

He-Man

Prince AdamFrom the Masters of the Universe Franchise - circa 1983.

Prince Adam of Eternia, who on raising his power sword
and proclaiming "by the power of Grayskull"....was transformed into He-Man. Immediately after he would proclaim...."I have the Power!"

His weapons consisted of the sword of power, a battle axe and a shield.

He-Man faced countless battles with his arch enemy, Skeletor.

Eternia's arch enemies were led by Skeletor and known collectively as "The Evil Horde"
Only He-Man and a few of his trusted friends stood between Skeletor and his threat to rule Eternia.

Cringer - The Battle Cat

Cringer, a cowardly, sleepy green tiger, who also transforms into the brave "Battle Cat" when He-man points his sword at him.

The storyline never really explains how or why Cringer becomes Battle Cat.

However, He-Man rides Battle Cat into many of his adventures.

okay...so its not the battle cat - but looks good anyhow....

Orko

OrkoAnother of He-Mans friends who knows his secret identity.

Transported accidentally to Eternia from "Trolla" when a cosmic storm "accidentally" transported him there. He saved He-Man and Cringer from a tar pit and was made Royal Buffoon by the King by way of gratitude.

Orko's magic was always suspect and prone to going wrong.... this always caused my boys to chuckle - they loved Orko's antics.

Orko - some 25 years after being boxed and placed in the attic.

My sons used to argue over why Orko wore a scarf covering half his face. I found out years later that this was because his people only ever show their face to their true love.

The trouble is that each of my sons will now be wanting to take Orko home with them.....

Man-E-Faces

I had to dig around a little to eventually get this ones name right.

When you twist the button on his head, his face turns around inside the helmet to reveal a different character.

In total he has 3 faces - a human, a robot and a beast. He was supposed to take on the characteristics of each of the faces.

Man-at Arms

Man at ArmsReal name - Duncan.

Man at Arms is one of only a few characters who knows He-Man's true identity.

A true friend to He-Man, his advice, teaching and weapons often help in a tight spot.

Ram Man

I seem to recall that this character was called Ram Man.

When you press a button on his back, his legs extend out to full length thrusting him forward.

I hope that you enjoy these Flickr Photos

Teela is the Captain of the Royal Guard responsible for protecting and training Prince Adam.

Skeletor

The arch enemy of He-man.

Skeletor, an evil demon from another dimension, constantly sought to conquer Castle Greyskull thereby giving him the power to conquer all Eternia.

Throughout the storyline, it became a little confusing as what Skeletor's relationship with King Randor was. Although I have to say, my sons paid no heed to this...they just wanted He-Man to beat him every time.....

Sy-Klone

One of Eternia's heroes.

He was a mechanical being who could generate strong winds by rotating quickly.

You turn the thumbwheel on his waist to unleash a fierce-some 360 degree spin.

I think this character came with a yellow shield, but sadly, this is no longer with him.

Whiplash

Another character with a twist waist and power punch action.

A bit of a baddie character, Whiplash originally started as a hero but later defected to Skeletor's side.

The tail would swing round and devastate the enemy.

Mantenna

Another Evil Horde Character.

Mantenna's eyes would pop out on stalks when you move a lever on his back. His eyes were meant to fire energy beams.

I seem to recall that this character was an evil spy....but was often seen as a funny character by my boys.

I'm too old to have played with He-man toys, and my son is too young, but I'm very familiar with them. We sold boxes and boxes of He-man action figures while I was managing a toy store in my early adult life. They were very popular.
