Deanna Favre's Newest Book - The Cure for The Chronic Life

Read Excerpt From Deanna Favre's Newest Book - The Cure for The Chronic Life

The Cure for The Chronic Life

This book is framed in the language of questions and answers, hope and despair, ache and healing. These are words and phrases that every person will understand, whether from personal experience or from conversations and interactions with others.

Regardless, we have all had unanswered questions that seemed to foster unreasonable decisions; feelings of despair that promoted a sense of apathy or discouragement; or the emotional, physical, or spiritual ache that kept us from seeing God in our midst and from living faithfully as God's person in our paths.

These questions, and this journey, affect all of life's situations. And most of the time, we use such language when we feel as though too much is unanswerable, undoable, or unreachable. How many stories or life situations can we recount that point to our uncertainties of a life with far too many questions?

But what about the other side of that language? What about a God who provides answers for our questions, possibilities for our uncertainties, and a new story for the unrecognizable avenues of grace and hope in each of our lives? This book answers those questions and provides a picture of hope in spite of our aches and pains-emotionally, relationally, physically, or spiritually.

And if that wasn't enough, God's wonderful gift to us through Christ not only addresses these old hurts, habits, and hang-ups, but it also gives us a new path and a new opportunity for grace and healing. More than any- thing, God's gift and promise to us in Christ is the reason we wrote the book-that God's redeeming love will meet the deepest of our questions and help us begin again. Wouldn't you like to start over?

At age of 20, Deanna Favre Gave Birth

Deanna Favre and Brett Favre

When she was 20 she gave birth to Brittany Nicole (6.2.1989). As a single mother, she put herself through college while working various jobs, including working for a collection agency.

She graduated from the University of Southern Mississippi in December 1994 with a degree in exercise science.

Deanna moved to Green Bay, Wisconsin to live with Brett Favre in 1995. Their relationship was strained during this time, which may have been related to Brett's newfound fame as an NFL quarterback and his addiction to Vicodin. Deanna said that Brett often ignored her and Brittany, and she described him as "loud, rough, and often hateful."

Deanna said she considered leaving Favre but worried that his addiction might become worse if she left. Favre, with Deanna at his side, publicly announced his addiction on May 14, 1996. Following his recovery, he credited Deanna as the reason he overcame the addiction.

Deanna had to call Brett's agent, and tell him to come pick up Brett or she was going to call the police. After this incident, Brett entered rehab for a second time.

Deanna Favre - Breast Cancer Activist

During her treatment she began receiving letters from women all around the country relating how they were motivated to get breast examinations after hearing her story. After five months of chemotherapy she expected to make a complete recovery.

Stepping into the national spotlight wasn't something that she wanted to do following her cancer diagnosis. She resented her diagnosis making front page headlines because of the husband's superstar status. The experience has brought her closer to her husband and her faith.

In 2005 Deanna Favre began selling pink Green Bay Packers hats to raise money and awareness for breast cancer. The hats outsold regular Packer hats during the first half of 2005.

Even before she started her own foundation, Deanna Favre ran the Brett Favre Fourward Foundation, which raised more than $3 million for disadvantaged or disabled children in Wisconsin and Mississippi.

Deanna's story shares the role her faith has played in her life-from her years as a single mom and her high profile marriage to Brett, to her battle with breast cancer and the work she is currently doing through the HOPE Foundation. Includes 24 pages of color photos, a foreword by Brett Favre, and an afterword by Brittany and Breleigh Favre.

There's one important message here: emotional pain and suffering can be greatly reduced by forgetting oneself and showing compassion toward others. After receiving a diagnosis of breast cancer, Favre, wife of NFL star quarterback Brett Favre, established a foundation to help women fight the disease and wrote Don't Bet Against Me! (2008), a hopeful book for breast cancer survivors. Stanford is an HIV-positive Methodist minister and author of When God Disappears (2008). In this title, their combined stories about themselves, their families, and people they've encountered provide inspiration for opting to live according to Christ's example instead of living in crisis. Beyond listing common mistakes that lead to crisis living and chronic unhappiness, the book serves as a 40-day, Bible-study guide and encourages discernment and application of God-centered truths for facing daily challenges. Full of helpful advice, but loaded with Biblespeak, so keep the King James handy. --Susan DeGrane
