Do You Have A Fear Of Spiders?
This page is about the fear of Spiders or arachnophobia! I love nature and animals so why am I so afraid Of Spiders? Putting my spider phobia aside (if I can!) to put together this page of information, suggestions and support for anyone else who is afraid of Spiders.
It has not always been easy to put his page together, researching spidery things! It is weird how I can hold a boa snake around my neck and am happy up close with many animals yet spiders still hold some fear for me. Lets face it there are far more things in the world to be scared of than spiders!! Yet if you have a spider phobia it is a big deal that is often difficult to explain to those who do not have it.
However, I think writing this page about arachnophobia helped me so I hope some of it is interesting and useful to you.

How My Arachnophobia Fear Of Spiders Began
Well I cannot be completely sure but I think I can trace my fear of spiders back.
I was always an outdoor child, we lived in the country and I always wanted to be outdoors, really in most weathers. I grew up to have great respect and love for all things in nature- the trees, plants, flowers, mammals, birds and insects.
I do not recall being afraid of spiders at all until I was 7 years old. I was having a bath and very happy and relaxed in my bubble bath when a Huge Great Black SPIDER fell on top of me !!
I can still see it today. It was big with thick black legs and a big body and it freaked me out!! I remember screaming and Mum came running to me. She was not afraid of spiders and simply took it out the bath, but I was a bag of nerves!
Ever since that day I shuddered when I saw a spider and always called for help to get them taken out.
I could never kill one, and wouldn't allow anyone else to kill one either so they had to be caught gently and taken outside.

Goldie Our Dog Taught Me Tolerance Of Spiders
Although I grew up not liking spiders or rather being afraid of them, I did over the years get a bit better around them. No longer screaming and jumping up on a chair but rather avoidance and taking them outside (or having them taken outside-it all depends on the size!!!)
If you have read my other lenses you will know we have a beloved dog called Goldie who was just gorgeous. He seemed to have great respect for other creatures and used to watch the birds for hours ..but never move to hurt or chase them. He smply moved away from anything that irriated him.
When it came to spiders he would let them near him and if they crawled on him he simply got up and walked away. I know many dogs who go after spiders but not him. He was not afraid nor aggressive to them and never ate one.
With him in the room I could tolerate a spider running around. In fact we had a big garden spider in our living room for a few weeks that I was OK with during the day or if Goldie was with me. Sadly one day it was resting near the sofa and Goldie came in , didn't see it and threw himself down on the floor...and squashed it!! OOOPs! He didn't mean to hurt it and at least it was quick. We missed that particular spider a little bit...

If like me you do not like to have spiders in the home but you do not want to kill them then a spider catcher may be for you !

- My husband and I both scream and jump when we see spiders in the house. In fact, we have one of those huge balck things with hob nailed boots on hiding under the sofa!! i was told that putting a conker in each corner of a room deters them so we've been hunting for conkers and I now have them all over the house!! Thanks for not adding pictures. Blessed by a Squid Angel ;)

- I respect spiders, but even when I find them in my house, I try to get the outside instead of killing them. However I have also seen the damage a brown recluse can cause. So like I said, respect, Blessed!

- Very clever not to upload any pictures of spiders, well thought out and considerate I think!! Even though I son't like spiders, somehow, since becoming a Mommy I seem to have the courage now to approach them and relocate them for my childrens safety! :)

- I'm petrified of spiders. Just like you, I can easily hold a snake. But even if the tiniest spider appears in my line of sight, you can see me running the other way. I don't know what it is about them, but even thinking about them makes my skin crawl.

- I suffer arachnophobia, still at the stage where it's either squish them with my feet (only if I wear books, just in case I miss and they decide to climb up my legs) or ask my husband to remove it (but killing it is still the best option for me). I try to be brave now, because I don't want my kids to see me squish a living being but it's hard
