What is fear?

Definition and word history

Fear is an emotional response to tangible and realistic dangers. Fear should be distinguished from anxiety, an emotion that often arises out of proportion to the actual threat or danger involved, and can be subjectively experienced without any specific attention to the threatening object.

Old English faer, the ancestor of our word fear, meant "calamity, disaster," but not the emotion engendered by such an event.

This is in line with the meaning of the prehistoric Common Germanic word feraz, "danger," which is the source of words with similar senses in other Germanic languages, such as Old Saxon and Old High German far, "ambush, danger," and Old Icelandic far, "treachery, damage."

Scholars have determined the form and meaning of Germanic feraz by working backward from the forms and the meanings of its descendants.
The most important cause of the change of meaning in the word fear was probably the existence in Old English of the related verb faeran, which meant "to terrify, take by surprise."

Fear is first recorded in Middle English with the sense "emotion of fear" in a work composed around 1290.

Fight your fears, frustrations and phobias!

Unfortunately...

...Life does not always run smoothly and many a step taken with the best intentions in the world does not turn out as well as expected!

Even under ideal conditions, in the midst of our modern social and economic system, we are faced with problems day after day that call for specific decisions. Some of them involve only minor adjustments, others necessitate drastic changes or complete reversals in habitual behavior. But whatever the need our feelings or emotions of the moment definitely influence our actions and greatly affect our final decisions.

So, made your decision today! What are you afraid of?

Your Fears May be Controlling You More Than You Actually Think

We all look for a way out!

To be able to meet conditions as they arise one must be prepared for them. But unfortunately many an individual is handicapped from the start.

Whether it be due to environment, to personal make-up, to conditioned reflexes, to preconceived notions, to lack of self-reliance or to emotional instability, many of us cannot face realistically the every-day problems of life.

We look for a way out and seek to escape the pending changes or the new responsibilities. We try to ignore them, to submerge or to suppress them, and that often marks the beginning of a complex or a neurosis.

The Chinese are great believers in preventive medicine and we, too, may find it advantageous in days to come to utilize the vast resources of modern medical science and mental therapy to keep us physically, mentally and emotionally fit at all times.

About the book

This book has two main objectives!

1. To reach those who are advancing in years and are gradually growing tense, discouraged, easily upset or emotionally disturbed without knowing why.

2. Those who are already beset by fears, worries, anxieties, frustrations or mysterious ailments and want to help themselves.

If you belong to the first group this book may help you arrest and prevent emotional disturbances.

If you belong to the second it may start you looking for the underlying causes and help you find ways to eliminate them.

Questions? Questions? Questions?

How many times you asked yourself.... ???

To do any of these things effectively you must "pin-point" the contributory factors, and the way to start is to ask questions of yourself.

*For instance, why do you think that no one needs you, wants you or is in any way concerned about you?

*Why are you beset by fears and anxieties which you cannot explain?
*Why do you feel insecure even in the midst of your immediate family?
*Why are you troubled by mysterious aches and pains which defy usual medications?
*Why do you consider yourself inferior or subservient to others?
*Are you lonely most of the time?
*Do you find yourself unable to make or retain friends?
*Do you feel uncomfortable in the midst of people and would rather be alone?
*Do you suffer from a feeling of guilt?
*Are you caught in a grip of misery, of compulsions or obsessions, and see no way out?
*Have you lost your mate recently and in the midst of your grief feel that life is no longer worth living?
*Do you think of yourself as a misfit or a failure?
*Are you now retired but fail to enjoy your leisure hours?
*Do you feel you could still be useful to others and to yourself if only you were shown how and given the chance?

If any of those questions apply to you then this thirty-day guide to happier living can help you, no matter what your age, your sex, your background or your economic status might be.

Good news!

How this guide will help you?

I've got good news because this guide will show you how to analyze yourself, how to evaluate your promptings and potentials, how to minimize objectionable traits, how to meet minor problems, how to banish fear and worries, how to adjust yourself to the inevitable, how to regain spiritual faith, how to find outlets for self-expression, how to re build self-confidence, how to develop new interests, how to make friends, and how to get more out of life within the framework of your present age, standing, background and environment.

Yes, it's true and you won't believe how simple it really is to get over your fears, worries and frustrations and how easily you'll start your climbing, day by day, step by step and hour after hour, on an imaginary stairway upward. Each riser in that stairway will introduce you to new concepts, to new vistas and horizons.
In fact, these stairs would become your own private stairway to success and happiness, only thirty space hours away.

This ebook will help you to gain a better understanding of yourself, to develop a healthier outlook upon life, to broaden your horizons, to discover newer and better ways for self-expression.

It will encourage you to cultivate new friends and enrich your contacts with them. It will foster within you a sense of security, a feeling of pride and accomplishment, the knowledge that you belong and are an integral part of life around you. That, in turn, will engender within you peace, well-being and contentment.

Go ahead and grab this invaluable resource that will help you conquer your fears, anxieties and phobias. Your mind will thank you. Pretty soon your family and friends will think you are a "get over your fears" genius and start asking you for advice!

Topic of the week

Who and What Are You?

THIS IS the beginning of a new, bright, glorious future for you, the sure way to happier days.

Day by day, as you mount another step and leave part of your old, drab, dreary past below, you will gain in knowledge, in perspective, in self-understanding. Day by day, as you add to your vantage points, widen your horizons, enlarge your concepts, reduce inner conflicts, learn to make new friends and strengthen your hold upon inner disturbances you will discover new depths and new potentialities within you. You will, then, be able to reshape your little world and develop a new and more desirable personality.

You will be climbing only one step at a time and only one change or modification will be required. And, it will be not so much the particular value of any given step or single change as the accumulated effect of a number of them that will bring you eventually to the top.

Renew your efforts every day to get ahead, to gain self control, self confidence and self understanding. Make each day's reading the important assignment for that day. Read and reread each paragraph and give yourself time to digest and absorb its contents, and if some particular passage strikes you or applies specifically to your needs underline it. Then go over it again and again until it becomes part of you and gives you the lift and the encouragement you need.

Then, and only then, will this book become your personal guide upward. Then, and only then, will you become better equipped to study yourself. Then, and only then, will you begin to look inwardly, to evaluate your promptings, to probe into your problems, to understand the reasons for your disturbances and thus learn how to gradually eliminate many of your fears, anxieties, worries and frustrations.

You will also learn, at the same time, that deep within you are many undiscovered and undeveloped potentialities. They may well be immortal sparks of greatness lying dormant within you that can be kindled into glowing fires of tremendous value.

You are the sun and the moon and the stars in your own private universe and you can make them shine and gleam and glisten in the beauty of your life, in the wisdom of God and in the happiness of your days.

You have never fully utilized those talents of yours, for various reasons. You may have been too busy growing up, learning a trade, following a profession, raising a family, paying for a home or meeting your obligations, and therefore never gave all your potentialities much of a chance.

But what about now? Can you give ear to those hidden urges and let them find expression now? It is never too late and your present age can hardly be an obstacle.

So, take courage and follow through on the promptings of your heart. They were never meant to be stifled, ignored or forgotten.

If you have the urge to sing, to write, to paint, to travel, to make things or to learn something entirely new to you, go ahead and do it-now.

Your first attempts may be poor and discouraging but do not let it dismay you. Keep trying again and again for that in itself is an accomplishment.

You are nature's greatest achievement, the most amazing and most complex form of life on earth. You are man created in the image of God and you can reach the loftiest heights.

Raise your head on high and strive to do better each and every day as you climb onward and upward on your stairway to success and happiness!

What they said about fears...

Few quotes about fear

"The best remedy for those who are afraid, lonely or unhappy is to go outside, somewhere where they can be quiet, alone with the heavens, nature and God. Because only then does one feel that all is as it should be and that God wishes to see people happy, amidst the simple beauty of nature."
Anne Frank

"The oldest and strongest emotion of mankind is fear."
H.P. Lovecraft

"Be not afraid of life. Believe that life is worth living, and your belief will help create the fact."
Henry James

"I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain."
Frank Herbert, Dune - Bene Gesserit Litany Against Fear

"Fear is that little darkroom where negatives are developed."
Michael Pritchard

"Am I afraid of high notes? Of course I am afraid. What sane man is not?"
Luciano Pavarotti

Crucial points to Succeed in Sales (and Life)

New Author and best ever book

Everybody - all of you high - low - in between bankers doctors - lawyers programmers - religious leaders - engineers - clerks - millionaires - salespeople pilots - no matter who you are - no matter where you are - men and women alike - you have something to sell.

So have I. So has every human being on the face of this earth.

Success in this world is fundamentally a matter of salesmanship, of using its principles whether in business, society, or politics, and applying them properly and effectively. The application of these principles varies widely - but the basic principles in all walks of life remain identically the same. And the degrees of success we meet with in making other people want what we have to offer absolutely and positively govern the returns we gain from life.

Making a sale has become an increasingly complex activity. However, one thing has not changed: Are you suited up, trained and ready to get out there and win? You should be after you follow the points in this book.

The principles here presented for acquiring personal power, developing personality, and cashing in on these values are not only fundamental requisites for a successful salesperson, but apply everywhere in life in all business, in social affairs, in politics, in the church, in the home, or in whatever place men strive to achieve.
