Why Do You Need a Federal Gun Permit?

A Federal Gun Permit is necessary to legally buy and sell guns in the United States. The 2nd Amendment guarentees US Citizens the right to keep and bear arms, but buying and selling guns is a whole different ballgame. A Federal Gun Permit is also known as a Federal Firearms License and commonly referred to as an FFL License.

There are lots of people today talking about the importance of getting your FFL as soon as possible. Check out McKenna Delany's article recently published on EzineArticles.com, called Federal Firearms License: Who Needs One?

Is It Hard to Get a Federal Gun Permit?

Obtaining a Federal Gun Permit is actually not hard at all, as long as you qualify for one, and if you fill out the paperwork accurately and completely. The paperwork issue is what scares most people away, people who would like to engage in buying and selling guns either as a business or a hobby but are a little intimidated by all the legal jargon that is used on the application.

Who Can Get a Federal Gun Permit?

A person qualifies to apply for a Federal Gun Permit if he/she:

1) is at least 21 years old
2) has a legitimate place to set up business
3) is not a convicted felon or is otherwise prohibited
from using firearms
4) has not previously violated the Gun Control Act
5) abides by all applicable business laws

Will It Be Harder to Get a Federal Gun Permit in the Future?

To be honest, nobody really knows the answer to that question. Laws and regulations governing how and when private citizens can buy and sell firearms as a business or a hobby can change at the whims of our lawmakers. With a newly-elected openly pro-gun control President in office, the future of Federal Gun Permit is uncertain at best.
