My Thanksgiving Day wish is that we will one day eradicate hunger worldwide ... and live in peace and harmony and have no more war either!

Let's all raise awareness. Think about the numbers. Petition the UN to put a system in place that drops RUTF's from airplanes when governments won't allow aid trucks to get in. Support Doctors Without Borders, they get to people other agencies can't, but even they got kicked out of Darfur. I pray for everyone less fortunate than I, but expecially for the children.

It does sadden me to see so much food thrown out of the back of supermarkets when people halfway across the world are starving. There must be a better way than that. What a great lens.

Thanks for sharing the video. We need more awareness to be of help...

Great lens pmolinero! I really admire what you are doing here. It is commendable that you like to help people in this way. Keep up the good work. I hope that you can make a difference. Sometimes, as as well intentioned as some of these organizations may be.

It has been noted in some cases that aid doesn't get through because of the governments don't allow it.

Congrats on a well deserved win in the Month of Thanks Challenge. This information is so heart-breaking and heart-wrenching. Thanks too for holding up the issue of world hunger for all to see. People all over the world especially, we in the US, that have so much and so many children and adults throughout the world have so little. Bear hugs, Frankster aka Bearmeister

Wow ! That video is so moving. Our Cub Scout group participated in the Annual food drive last week where we distribute bags and pick them up one week later. I've been doing this for years with the Boy Scouts but never really thought much deeper about the world issue of hunger. My car was full of canned goods going to local food pantries - insuring the locally poverty-stricken will have food through the holiday season. Thank you for opening my eyes wider to this problem. Great lens ! 5 Stars! Check out my BSA site ! Thanks.

Hi. I'm blown away by the fact that 1 billion people suffer from hunger. That's one fifth of the worlds population. By the way, you may consider adding this lens to the FREE promotion and Funding for Social Entrepreneurs group to explore additional fund raising options.

Yes, we must be aware of how blessed and try to pass those blessings on to others. I am lensrolling this lens to my How You Can Make A Difference To Remake America And The World lens. I have a donation module to Action Against Hunger there as well. Good work!
  • mybunnysuit Nov 13, 2008 @ 6:43 pm | delete
I donate all of my squidoo earning to Action Against Hunger. 5 stars.

Nice lens. I just wish more was spent on stabilising the conditions of peoples around the world, ensuring they had access to the proper shelter, food and medicines, rather than spending it on weapons of war. Of course if all these CEO's of large corporations weren't paid millions of dollars, ditto people who play games for a living, the world could be a much happier place to live in for so many more.
  • Joan4 Nov 13, 2008 @ 4:35 pm | delete
Excellent! Awareness is half the battle!

Wonderful, especially at this time of year, to think of others. More importantly perhaps, to teach our children to think of others, as well.

I remember, back in the good ol' days, when I was working for DCM (Documentum) before it got bought by EMC, before it went public, we participated in a food drive.

Documentum was going head to head with another older company who will remain nameless because I forgot who it was but it was probably Oracle, and our rep was talking to their rep and their rep was trying to console us saying that they always donated more than anyone and one day Documentum might come close to their donation..

Documentum almost doubled their contribution and we were just a little (50 people or so) start up. Ah, those were the days. In that spirit, we at Life by Chocolate will participate in this.

Wouldn't it be a good idea if, instead of buying food like all the stores were shutting for a month instead of 24 hours, we bought just what we needed and could eat without pigging out. We could give what we save to Action Against Hunger, Oxfam, Save the Children or any of the charities that help people literally dying of starvation. This lens is a real timely reminder of how many people in the world have nothing or not enough to eat.
  • susannaduffy Nov 13, 2008 @ 3:55 am | delete
Nor should we forget the kiwi fruit that are slightly too small by eurocrat standards or any fruit & veg that the supermarket chains find too tricky to package uniformly....... Of course, donating to charity won't change the system that keeps 1 billion people in the world hungry so that we can enjoy a high standard of living, but it's better than watching them die while we glut ourselves on Christmas hams and turkey. Also, Action Against Hunger does try to commit $0.90 of every dollar directly to field programmes. which is a lot more than other aid agencies. Excellent lens. Well done ..
  • inkserotica Nov 13, 2008 @ 3:15 am | delete
Okay, let's get the ball rolling; definitely a good cause! So much food goes to waste in the UK and let's not forget the weird, misshapen fruit and vegetables thrown away because you can't sell them... 5*
