I Needed A Healthier and Less Expensive Laundry Soap

A couple of years ago, I found myself frustrated with the high cost of laundry detergent, along with some of the chemicals I found listed as ingredients. I learned that some of those chemicals seemed a bit nasty and possibly unsafe for my family. Therefore, I began my research into a less expensive and safer means of cleaning clothes and linens.

I spent many hours searching the web and talking with other people. I discovered that I could buy organic laundry detergent at my local stores but the prices were rather high and I did not want to spend a small fortune on laundry soap. I also discovered that I could make my own laundry soap and save money!

I felt a little unsure of things when I decided to make my first patch of laundry soap. I was worried that it would not really clean the clothes, that it might smell funny to my family or that it might do something to my washing machine. Regardless, I bought supplies, got out the blender and went to work on my creation.

I found that making homemade laundry soap was rather easy and did save money. I also like the way the clothes smelled and nothing bad has happened to my washing machine. After I made my first couple batches, I started to experiment with different recipes and soap. The Fels Naptha Laundry Soap Recipe is what I consider to be the best.

How Much Soap Do You Use and Other Helpful Information?

Large Load = 2 tablespoons

Small Load = 1 tablespoon

Heavy Soiled Load = 3 tablespoons

I also pre-treat stains with this laundry soap. I wet the stain area, put a small amount of powder on it and gently rub the powder into the stain. I usually let it sit for 15 to 20 minutes before placing the stained item in the washing machine.

One batch of The Fels Naptha Laundry Soap Recipe makes enough soap to last my family at least one week. My home has five people including two teenagers. I usually make one batch at a time but have made more.

I am able to find all the ingredients at my local Wal-Mart. I have also found them at grocery stores. They are usually located in the "laundry products" section of the store.
