Felt Carousel Christmas Tree Ornaments

How To Make These Easy Carousel Christmas Tree Ornaments

Every year my family and I make a new Christmas tree ornament, card or present for both decorating and gifting. This was a recent Christmas project. I have always loved carousel horses and horses in general so this was really enjoyable. It makes a great ornament, package decoration or gift for any horse or carousel enthusiast.

This felt carousel horse Christmas tree ornament is easy to do and fun to decorate. You can make it as complex or simple as you like. The original design for this ornament was drawn by me so feel free to print it out for your use or create your own.

What you'll need to make this ornament
* White Felt - Body of horsr ornament
* Ribbon - for decorating
* Yarn or floss - for the mane and tail
* Polyfil - for stuffing
* Fabric glue - for glueing on ribbon
* Fabric paint for painting on hooves and face

The Pattern For The Carousel Horse Christmas Tree Ornament

I know it looks a bit puffy here but once you stitch it up it gets a whole lot skinnier.

Steps For Carousel Christmas Tree Ornament

Making Your Carousel Horse Christmas Tree Ornament

* Trace Pattern Onto Felt And Cut 2 Patterns

* Sew Together Carousel Horse Ornament

I really like to hand stitch these sorts of things. It's kind of meditative for me. However it would save time with a sewing machine. Be sure to leave the whole top line (neck and back of the horse open.

* Invert The Body Of The Ornament

The legs are kinda narrow so can be a bit tricky. Use a pencil or some other object to push these inside out.

* Cut Lengths Of Floss For Mane & Tail

Apply floss generously along the neckline and tail.

* Sew Mane And Tail Area.

The mane area will be covered with decorations so no worries to be too neat. The tail area may be exposed but you can also cover it with decorations if you wish. At this point the back of the Carousel Horse Ornament should still be left open.

* Stuff And finish Sewing Shut.

The back area will also be covered with decorations to hide any sewing flaws.

* Apply Ribbon Decorations Using Fabric Glue.

* Glue On Ears

* Paint Face And Hooves

and allow to dry thoroughly.

* Add Floss For Hanging

In this instance I used gold but of course any color would work fine including the white used for the mane and tail.
