A great felted project is the Ravenna Bag.
A great felted project is the Ravenna Bag. Not only does it employ the felting process, it also involves 'needle felting.' Needle felting is a technique that fuses another layer of fiber (roving, wool yarn, or a piece of felt) onto the base felted fabric. If you'd like to join the Ravenna Bag class, simply register online. If you'd like to order the yarn and pattern for the Ravenna Bag, give us a call or email. We'd be happy to set up the order for you over the phone.Some tips for felting include:
1. Weave in all ends before felting.
2. Use a pillow cover to contain the fibers while felting. This will avoid having to clean out balls of fuzz after washing.
3. Keep the machine lid open (if using a top loading machine). This will allow you to check your felting process more frequently and remind you that something is in there!
4. Re-felting is allowed! If you want a tighter fabric or a smaller end result, continue to wash the project in hot water. Just remember, you can't 'unshrink' a project once it's shrunk. Many a poodle has inherited an overfelted sweater.
Most of all have fun! Don't be afraid to experiment and test out new techniques. We promise you'll learn something in the process!

Felt is the oldest form of fabric known to humankind.
It predates weaving and knitting, although there is archaeological evidence from the British Museum that the first known thread was made by winding vegetable fibers on the thigh. In Turkey, the remains of felt have been found dating back at least to 6,500 BC. Highly sophisticated felted artifacts were found preserved in permafrost in a tomb in Siberia and dated to 600AD.
Feltmaking is still practiced by nomadic peoples in Central Asia, where rugs, tents and clothing are regularly made. Some of these are traditional items, such as the classic yurt, while others are designed for the tourist market, such as decorated slippers.
In the Western world, felt is widely used as a medium for expression in textile art as well as design.
Needle Felting has become an outlet for many artists
