Female genital warts

Female genital warts generally occur on the moist areas of the vaginal opening and labia minora. But they can also be present inside the vaginal canal or the cervix.

To make a 100% accurate diagnosis for female genital warts, a few tests and exams may be needed.

Acetowhitening may be used on external lesions that are suspected to be HPV related. This method consists on applying 5% acetic acid on the suspected lesions for 10 minutes. The only topical treatment that can be used for internal female genital warts is Alpha Interferon which is an antiviral gel that is injected iside the vagina with a special applicator twice a day until the warts die. But this treatment is rarely used, because internal female genital warts are generally treated with laser therapy or cryotherapy.
