Designing The Right Fence
Decide what Fence Designs will Serve Your PurposeThere are so many things to consider when choosing fence design: material, cost, functionality and style. If you want something durable, light weight, easy to maintain and clean, go with vinyl, if you want a rustic, old time feel, go with wood, and if you want something cheap and easy go with wire, but choosing something that will be effective doesn't have to be unattractive. There are many beautiful fencing designs that also serve useful purposes that you can consider for your project.
Good Neighbor Fences
If you have privacy fencing, it can be quite unattractive depending on the style you choose, especially for your neighbor who is looking at the other side of it. Good neighbor fencing designs are identical on both sides of the fence, with tall posts that are each capped with a decorative piece. They are very functional, blocking out sound and sight, but they are also very attractive to both you and the outside world.
Standard and Reverse Runner Fences
A standard runner is a popular design for wood fences where the posts are placed behind the fence. They also are dug deeper than the fence line, so this is a job you will need to get custom done. The result is very appealing though and works for picket styles, shadow boxes and privacy fences. A reverse runner are more decorative, with framing on the back and posts that are higher than the fence itself. The posts can be also be wider and of different materials: like brick posts with decorative white caps to match a white picket fence. They are sturdy and beautiful.
PVC Fencing
Polyvinyl fences are becoming very popular for their durability and low maintenance, since you can wash anything off of them and they will not rot or rust. Since more and more people are going with this material, PVC fences are becoming more and more decorative to meet the growing demand. You can get PVC fencing in almost any style: picket, split rail, privacy, gated and board on board, and some of the designs you will find are latticework, crossbuck paddock style, scalloped edges and a variety of decorative picket designs. You can also get different fence post caps, like balls, flat pieces, tear drops and gothic styles. It is a clean, fresh look that looks enough like wood to add the charm but without the hassle.
Fence designs don't need to be either functional or stylish; they can easily be both. With so many fence building possibilities to choose from, there is something to suit every taste.
